Good once again - but not the best
Reviewed: 27-12-24
I am invested in all the characters and their lives now - so I have to keep listening - but - this was not one of the better books. I struggled to not drift off when listening. Don’t let me put anyone off though - I think the books are worth a listen and I am about to go on to book 13. Maybe my issue with this book is that I am not a fan of the circus?!

I have enjoyed all of the Alexander Gregory books - although I do think the storyline is beginning to get a bit drawn out now - but still more than worthy of a listen

Really liked the timeline and the use of the news at the time - made it more real. Felt it dragged a tad with the trial - but didn’t stop me listening to the end. Finished the book within 2 days - needed to find out what actually happened. My first book by this author - and I am going in for more !!

Story
The first rule of nuclear war is that there are no rules. Up to now, no one outside of official circles has known exactly what would happen if a rogue state launched a nuclear missile at the Pentagon. Second by second and minute by minute, these are the real-life protocols that choreograph the end of civilisation as we know it. Because the plans for General Nuclear War are among the most classified secrets held by the United States government, this book takes the listener up to the razor’s edge of what can legally be known.

Very clever way to dramatise and highlight nuclear war. I first read this book and then listened to it on holiday (!). Definitely better to read than listen. I found the narrators monotone voice irritating at best - would have given up if I hadn’t read it before. So - I would definitely recommend reading this book - it was a total page turner and scary at the accuracy.

So much better than the film. Even though the accuracy is not quite how it would be now - it doesn’t detract from the sadness that man can create. The narrator was exceptional - not too much drama in his voice - just enough to make it thoughtful and obviously sad. Recommend this book to everyone.
