What the critics say

"Scott Brick brings a chilling calm to the complex story with his deep, even tone and clear enunciation.... He does a particularly fine portrayal of John Hammond, the creator of the controversial park, giving the character a raspy edge that suits the dark agenda beneath his grandfatherly facade." Why have I never read this?

All the best parts of Jurassic Park 1,2 & 3 were all originally written in this book. Great audio, the orator chosen was very well picked.

Way better than the movie

I don't want to be "that guy", but I honestly love the book compared to the movie. The descriptions of the dinosaurs make them a lot creepier, and being able to know what the characters think about and feel is extremely important, especially when they're confronted with the dinosaurs. The book continues longer than the movie, and it feels a lot better in terms of pacing. Of course, the first hour or two is dedicated to teaching the reader about genetic science and all that, which is pretty dry, but necessary if you don't know anything about it.
I also really liked the slow lead up to there being dinosaurs. it makes the reveal a lot better, even though I went in knowing they would be in the book.

I rented the movie before I bought this audiobook, and I found quite a few things I didn't like about it already. In it's time it was fantastic, I remember loving it as a kid (when I probably shouldn't have been watching it) but as a jaded adult, I found that Jeff Goldblum's character was way too annoying. I get that he's supposed to be disliked so the audience has someone to root against though.
It was also just way too Hollywood. I don't really know how to explain it, but the way they change the writer's work to fit the movie format takes a lot of what made the original special and just throws it out, or splits it up in order to make sequels. I understand that fitting an entire book into an hour and thirty minutes is hard, but the dinosaurs- namely the raptors- didn't seem as intelligent as tbey do in the book. They open a door with their claws. And that's it. In the book, they are described as being as intelligent as chimpanzees, having the ability to make and execute plans, and they're all around a lot more scary in the book

Better than I could have imagined

I had always heard that the source material for the Jurassic Park movie was amazing, and I’m glad that after all these years I finally checked it out.

The story itself is VERY well done, and Scott Brick does a fantastic job narrating it. I look forward to listening to follow up novel when I get the chance.

Truly sucks you in!

Loved the story! Makes you feel like you're actually there and the narrator did an excellent job in differentiating the characters with their voices and the correct amount of emotion in their voices. All in all, had an amazing time listening and wished it never ended!

Very different from the movie

I think that the book was amazing and was very different from the movie. I like how the story goes along with everything. I especially liked all the parts with the raptors.

A Certifiable Classic

"The Book Is Better Than The Movie" is pretty clichéd.. but in this case, undeniably true (the Movie is Fantastic, btw). This Michael Crichton book checks all of the boxes for a SciFi Thriller (a genre the man mastered and made marketable): A fascinating conjecture fed by solid (well.. plausible) science; well-researched background information; relatable characters injected into the imagined scenario; and mind's-eye quality beautifully-paced action sequences. There are a couple of scenes in this book that are written so well that they made it into movie sequels (after being cut from the original theatrical release). In fact, the book demonstrates Crichton's talents incredibly effectively: 'Jurassic Park' combines an intriguing premise, digestible but advanced technology described suitably for a general audience, pulse-generating dinosaur encounters (albeit sometimes silly), nail-biting suspense, and a thought-provoking philosophical discussion on the topic of "should we?". Although the author is straight-up terrible at writing realistic children, this is likely Crichton's finest, most well-rounded work.

Scott Brick does a very good job reading this recording (his most notable deficiencies - an almost "arrogant" drawl style, an annoyingly punctilious cadence, and a plodding pace - are easily corrected by setting playback speed at 1.15X).
[Brick seems to read a lot of the audiobooks that fit my tastes (and he isn't among my favorite performers), but was definitely a good choice to narrate this one - his diction, emotiveness, tone, timbre, and voice-acting suit the text perfectly. Well done, Blackstone Audio].

This is an exemplar for how to do an audiobook. Quality production standards; commendable reading; brilliant novel - this is a 9.5/10 product.

And Scott Brick is awesome. Be carefull tho, he's tone is an incredible sleeping pill if you take it in a laid down position. I cant wait to listen at the part 2

Fantastic

I've always been a big fan of the movies, but this book is way beyond what I expected. I swear Scott Brick could read the dictionary and I'd listen. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys the movies.
