Story
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Great story, but felt like it devolved into Catholic preaching towards the end
Reviewed: 2024-09-19
The first little bit was meh, but then it started to get very good. Unfortunately the last couple hours seemed to become more and more like Catholic propaganda, which just felt lazy and offensive. Having nothing more than a few words and no explanation about the surprise revelation of a character's female related surgery, as if it's not really important, but then making a big deal about Sam's elderly mother's hallucinations of the virgin Mary...that didn't feel right. It felt like so many other times I've seen (and experienced) Catholics devaluing women and their bodies. It would have been an amazing book, but the end ruined it.

Story
After my ex-boyfriend makes me the target of a cruel online hate campaign, I know I have to get away. The last thing I expect on my trip to Sweden is a moose standing in the middle of the road—or the mysterious, bearded ranger who pulls me from my wrecked car. Now, a storm's brewing, and I'm being carried into a secluded mountain cabin by a Nordic God rippling with muscle. Inside, I'm greeted by three ridiculously hot Swedish mountain men.

Bad. (minor spoilers in review)
Reviewed: 2024-07-23
Weak story and weaker characters. Mostly just sex. Also completely ignores that a woman lost her job for being the victim of a sex crime and, even after the man who perpetrated the crime goes to jail for it, the employer faces no repercussions, nor did any of the people who had been emailing her and harassing her...just feels like the author doesn't seem to think this sort of treatment of a woman is that big a deal, which (in my opinion) is shameful and disappointing. It's a boring story that lacks any moral fibre and tries to cover it up with sex scene after sex scene. I do wish I had not wasted my time.

Story
Emma is the one that got away. The only survivor of a serial killer known in the tabloids as “The Hairdresser”, because of the trophies he takes from his victims. The police aren't convinced. Nor is her husband. She never actually saw her tormentor properly, but now she recognizes him in every man she sees. Haunted by the horrifying incident and unwanted notoriety, Emma gives up her job as a psychiatrist and retreats from the outside world to recuperate at home, where it’s quiet. Where she can be anonymous and safe. Where no one can hurt her.

Androcentric and Inaccurate
Reviewed: 2024-07-18
Very androcentric, which is really terrible when the main character is a woman. It felt like the thought and research put into the mental health aspect was next to nothing, as there were plenty of fallacious inaccuracies that were presented as if they were scientific fact and it seemed to have a rather old fashioned attitude towards women, mental health, and homosexuality. Overall an offensive waste of time and money.

Lack of ending ruined it.
Reviewed: 2023-07-20
Voice actors did an amazing job! The story and the characters were all great! It really hooked me in...which made the lack of ending an even bigger let down than it would have if it were only a mediocre story. It just sort of stopped. I looked to see if there was a part two, but found nothing. Don't write half a story and try to sell it as a whole one. Really did not appreciate that.

What would happen if millions of people around the world suddenly disappeared one day? In this fascinating apocalyptic thriller, best-selling Christian inspirational authors LaHaye and Jenkins pool their considerable talents to answer that question. Narrator Richard Ferrone's unusually deep and hypnotic voice will keep you right in the middle of this not-unimaginable end of the world nightmare.

Misleading and Disrespectful (in my opinion)
Reviewed: 2023-07-12
Didn't expect to have a heavy sermon forced on me. It would appear that the author is trying to use a popular topic to get you to waste your time on an hours long speech about how you aren't good enough because you don't love Jesus enough. I've spent years of my life having that forced upon me. I find it appalling and disrespectful to everyone who isn't a hardcore Christian. Narrator was okay, but the awkward pauses with a very faint static made it sound cheap.

I absolutely loved this story. It made its point well, and did not fail to entertain. My only complaint is that it was over too soon. Love that the author donated to help the cause and encourages others to spread the word and help how they can. (PS: google TST reproductive rights...no connection to the author as far as I know, but it's on topic.)
