Story
Ray Welter, who was until recently a high-flying advertising executive in Chicago, has left the world of newspeak behind. He decamps to the isolated Scottish Isle of Jura in order to spend a few months in the cottage where George Orwell wrote most of his seminal novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four. Ray is miserable and quite prepared to make his troubles go away with the help of copious quantities of excellent scotch.

wonderfully narrated book!!! very thought provoking story. I could see this book being read and studied in highschool or university. The narrator's reading of this book with all the many voices brought the story alive for me.

This was a wonderful read after "Such Such Were the Joys and Other Essays". It touched on all of those essays and it was great to learn about Orwell's life context at the time of writing those essays. I find this book (and Orwell's life) very inspiring on so many accounts... we should never give up, and continue standing up for what is good.

Story
Viewed as too libelous to print in England until 1968, the title essay in this collection reveals the abuse Orwell experienced as a child at an expensive and snobbish boarding school and offers insights into his lifelong concern for the oppressed. "Why I Write" describes Orwell's sense of political purpose, and the classic essay "Politics and the English Language" insists on clarity and precision in communication in order to avoid the Newspeak later described in 1984.

I wasn't sure what to expect here... while there were certainly some stories that were on topics that I didn't know anything about I was very pleasantly surprised to get a glimpse of the person that George Orwell was. This compilation has only made me love and appreciate his work more. a must read if you are a fan!

Story
With Nothing But the Truth, Marie Henein, arguably the most sought-after lawyer in the country, has written a memoir that is at once raw, beautiful, and altogether unforgettable. Her story, as an immigrant from a tightknit Egyptian-Lebanese family, demonstrates the value of strong role models - from her mother and grandmother, to her brilliant uncle Sami who died of AIDS. She learned the value of hard work, being true to herself and others, and unapologetically owning it all.

What a beautiful story about love. It is a must read for everyone. We can all learn something from Amanda and her family's story. I couldn't put this book down and if this can say anything... while I was listening to my book on Audible and went to pause it the other day I heard "hey.... I was listening to that!" Little did I know my spouse, in a different room and unbeknownst to me, had been reeled in and was listening too.!
