Story
Lillian and Madison were unlikely roommates and yet inseparable friends at their elite boarding school. But then, Lillian had to leave the school unexpectedly in the wake of a scandal, and they’ve barely spoken since. Until now, when Lillian gets a letter from Madison pleading for her help. Madison’s twin stepkids are moving in with her family, and she wants Lillian to be their caretaker. However, there’s a catch: The twins spontaneously combust when they get agitated, flames igniting from their skin in a startling but beautiful way.

I don"t usually review

I don"t generally review books here, but this clever, quirky and endearing book was such a glorious surprise that I am compelled. Deftly told, the characters are complex and fleshed out and the "paranormal " nature of the children smoothly worked into the story. If you want to look below the surface of the narrative it is clearly about much more then some lost people finding places, but the story is really satisfying in itself. The performance fits the characters perfectly, especially representing Lillian in her general deadpan and defeated approach to life. I really loved this audiobook!

Story
After many years working around the world for an international charity in the late 1960s, Eleanor Trewynn has retired to the relative quiet of a small town in Cornwall. But her quiet life is short-lived when, due to her experience, the Commonwealth Relations Office reaches out to her to assist in a secret conference that is to take place in a small hotel outside the historical village of Tintagel. Meanwhile, her niece, Detective Sergeant Megan Pencarrow, is investigating the disappearance of a local solicitor when she is assigned to help provide security.

I really enjoyed this series! I have listened to Daisy Dalrymple more as background but these ones really engaged me and I thoroughly enjoyed them. The narration is solid and the characters, stories and locations are rich and interesting. I wish there were more.
