Strong start but underwhelming
Reviewed: 2021-05-17
I was immediately pulled into the mystery when i first started this book although i did guess about 2 hrs in who the actual culprit was. Maybe im just that good or it was just predictable but strong mystery. I was invested in some of the characters tho somehow, the ending was just underwhelming.

Story
Seven years ago, six-year-old Maisie Earnshaw was found facedown in a duck pond, her body mutilated. Isabel - at age 14, found covered in Maisie's blood - was convicted of murder. As Leah spends time with Isabel, she comes to know her as a young woman with a sweet, gentle nature, someone she could never see as a murderer. Leah begins to suspect members of the Fielding family of framing Isabel as a young girl, and she's not the only one. True crime blogger James Gorden thinks Isabel is innocent, too.

The build up to later reveals twist was well thought out and meticulous. The story and the twist were intense and I enjoyed binging this book. I love that hight dose of human realism at the same time, a beautifully gorry story. Can't wait to start the next book, might be one of my new favorite trilogies.

Absolutely No Regrets

The entire series became so personal and so close to me after the first few minutes of listening. Marissa Meyer did an AMAZING job at keeping me on my toes and I loved every bit of the entire experience. I'm not usually the type who likes super heros. They tend to come off as cheezy and I admit, the main renegades or the main 2, rather, captain chromium and the dread warden, were a bit cheezy but they won me over after the first book. The characters became so real to me, saying goodbye at the last word of this last book was hard but I will always remember the adventure I was on while listening to this series. EVEN BETTER, if u havent heard or read it yet, I suggest Meyer's other series The Lunar Chronicles. I am so clad I decided to listen to it. It got me through the beginning of Covid and I am SO glad I dont have to live my live never hearing it. It was AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE, I still miss the characters and I like to wonder how they are now. also, hard 2 grasp I dont live in a world where cyborgs r real and normal.
