As usual, a very enjoyable read- another Maisie Dobbs story! I've read her before and this time I've read three books in a row. :-) I had to see what happened to her next. :-) Good writing, good storyline, tho I thought she took too many risks this time. Orlagh Cassidy is just right for narrating this series! I recommend them.

Story
The year is 1933. Maisie Dobbs is contacted by an Indian gentleman who has come to England in the hopes of finding out who killed his sister two months ago. Scotland Yard failed to make any arrest in the case, and there is reason to believe they failed to conduct a thorough investigation. The case becomes even more challenging when another Indian woman is murdered just hours before a scheduled interview. Meanwhile, unfinished business from a previous case becomes a distraction, as does a new development in Maisie's personal life.

Story
To the costermongers of Covent Garden Eddie Pettit was a gentle soul with a gift for working with horses. When Eddie is killed in a violent accident, the grieving costers are skeptical about the cause of his death. Who would want to kill Eddie - and why? Maisie Dobbs' father, Frankie, had been a costermonger, so she had known the men since childhood. She remembers Eddie fondly and is determined to offer her help. But it soon becomes clear that powerful political and financial forces are equally determined to prevent her from learning the truth behind Eddie's death.

Great Story, Great Narration!

Jacqueline Winspear is a great author. I certainly enjoy her writing about Maisie. She rounds out the characters and the storyline is always very well done. The narrator has a beautiful voice and can do all the accents and voices excellently. I recommend both of them.
In this story you can feel the sense of foreboding that must have been among many people in Britain at the time, and the discouragement of having barely gotten over the first World War II, to think that a second one might be coming. The story is woven well around that thought without being too morose.

Quite offensive , coarse, vulgar language used throughout the book, because he can't be bothered to use vocabulary of decent people. quite unnecessary! One can express their displeasure in something without resorting to low life vulgarities. I had thought he was intelligent, but clearly not. Have enjoyed one or two of his books in the past but now he just lets loose with swearing, and I most certainly will not be getting any more of his books either in paper or on audio.

Story
Oliver Sacks' compassionate, compelling tales of people struggling to adapt to different neurological conditions have fundamentally changed the way we think of our own brains, and of the human experience. In Musicophilia, he examines the powers of music through the individual experiences of patients, musicians, and everyday people. He explores how catchy tunes can subject us to hours of mental replay, and how a surprising number of people acquire nonstop musical hallucinations that assault them night and day. Yet far more frequently, music goes right....

The stories are fascinating and amazing, showing how music can have profound effects on many people's lives and in turn those around them. Simon Prebble' s reading is steady. He has a good voice which I have enjoyed in other books. The book is a little dry, but it's not fiction, :-) and worth it for the information there in. How can music affect our individual lives? Something to think about

Great book! Amazing stories that will raise your eyebrows. I actually learned a lot in this book, one thing being about flu pandemics and their possible causes. Very interesting characters and stories! And the author knows how to read what he wrote, with the right inflections and accent. I recommend this book I will be looking for more of his.

But the boy is a fighter and after being evicted from the workhouse for asking for 'more' and surviving a stint as an undertaker’s assistant, he walks many miles to London and finds a whole new life with a gang of young pickpockets led by the Artful Dodger and their guardian Fagin.

At first I didn't like this, because I thought they were adding things to the story that weren't there, but it turned out it was my ignorance. When I looked up the characters they introduced in this version, I found out that they actually are an important big part of the original writing of Charles Dickens Oliver Twist. What happened to Oliver was planned and plotted ahead of time , Little did I know! So I learned a lot! and it was very well performed!
