Histoire
Nathan and his companions are free. For now. They're trapped inside the fortress-city of Halsmet, and every mage of Giantsrest is hunting for them. Luckily enough, they've been found by Faline, the shapeshifting leader of the Assassins of Gemore. She's pledged to teach Nathan her deadly trade. How far will he go to fight the empire of slavers? How much murder is justified? Even if they manage to win this fight against Giantsrest, it won't be the end of the conflict. A Questor from ages past lurks in the heart of the Ascendent Academy, and he won't allow Giantsrest to suffer a defeat.

Good, but dialogue is not as good as before
Évalué le: 2024-08-23
The author started beating some in-universe metaphors to death and it's somewhat annoying. Muck grabber, hear me, the castle bear has blood in its eyes and I would give a grand insight.... X1000

Histoire
The magical world of Davrar is inhospitable and strange. Terrible monsters roam, ancient dungeons lurk over every hill, and the prophesied Endings promise doom. But it's Nathan Lark's new home. He's developed his antimagic and found friends in the most powerful Adventurers of his generation. They've sworn an oath to defend the city of Gemore and defeat the Endings. On the horizon is the enslaving mage-empire of Giantsrest, and Archmage Taeol dho Droxol hasn't forgotten that Nathan holds secrets of Earth. Conflict is certain. There is only one path forward. Nathan and his friends must advance.

Good pacing, characters and dialogue
Évalué le: 2024-08-20
Litrpg is usually plagued with bad dialogue and character behaviours. Usually because the author takes a bland shortcut for some story arc. None of that here. It's really well done. The action pacing is really good too. We all know that the main character is always going to be fine in these types of books, yet he's managed to introduce tension in his action scenes.

Histoire
Nathan's life was defined by labs and lectures until an Archmage yanked him into Davrar and made him a tantalizing offer: master magic in exchange for Earth's scientific secrets. Yet, Nathan can't shake off the feeling that darker truths lurk beneath such promises. The world of Davrar is a dangerous place teeming with dungeons and monsters–ruled by levels, Talents, and a near-infinite progression of power. Nathan will need to rely on himself to survive, forging alliances and taking every advantage he can get against those that seek to control him.

Very well done incorporation of science
Évalué le: 2024-08-20
The science aspect in the book is extremely well done and satisfying. The science is deep and correct in a way I've never seen anywhere else.
The dialogue, worldbuilding, characters pacing - it's all really good too

Flat writing and stilted narration
Évalué le: 2024-03-12
The story starts with a very flat "racism is bad", "boy is bullied", "why can't everyone be nice" arc, and it doesn't get more nuanced or interesting than that.
Sometimes a great narrator can save a story like this, but this is some of the most stilted and off-pace narration I've heard. It's hard to follow or engage because the pauses are so long and inconsistent, that there's really not much flow.

Histoire
Reidon Ward will become a god. He doesn't know it yet, of course. Reidon was born weak, sickly, and small. Afflicted with a painful disease and abandoned by his parents because of it, he has had to fight tooth and nail for every minor advantage life has allowed him. However, his perseverance has not gone unnoticed, and when the most powerful artificial intelligence in human history takes an interest in him, things began to change quickly.

Decent writing, but narrator is meh
Évalué le: 2023-11-15
The world building is pretty novel, dialogue is ok, and characters seem to have decent depth so far. The narrator makes the voices kinda whiney though

Histoire
Hiral is the Everfail, the weakest person on the flying island of Fallen Reach. He trains harder than any warrior. Studies longer than any scholar. But all his people are born with magic powered by the sun, flowing through tattoos on their bodies. Despite having enormous energy within, Hiral is the only one who can’t channel it; his hard work is worth nothing. Until it isn’t. In a moment of danger, Hiral unlocks an achievement with a special instruction: Access a Dungeon to receive a Class-Specific Reward.

Characters and dialogue are a bit flat
Évalué le: 2023-10-23
While I found the magic system and world building fairly compelling, I felt bored/annoyed often during dialogue or internal-monologue.
The characters would often grasp some random idea out of thin air, feel overly confident in it, and it always being correct, with little setting to back it up. Feels like lazy/bad writing. Character growth was basically just a flat self-confidence arc with new magic powers used inconsistently.
On the good side, I thought the suspense in learning more about the enemy was pretty well done.

Histoire
Marcus' hero days are behind him. He knows too well that even the smallest war still means somebody's death. When his men are impressed into a doomed army, staying out of a battle he wants no part of requires some unorthodox steps. Cithrin is an orphan, ward of a banking house. Her job is to smuggle a nation's wealth across a war zone, hiding the gold from both sides. She knows the secret life of commerce like a second language, but the strategies of trade will not defend her from swords. Geder, sole scion of a noble house, has more interest in philosophy than in swordplay.

Histoire
Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Surprisingly boring

Most of the reviews are gushing, but I found the plot almost non-existent and the dialogue dry.
The narrator is good, which is the only reason I made it to the end

Histoire
It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

Starts pretty terribly but gets good
Évalué le: 2023-06-23
The first 30 chapters or so felt a bit cringey, but it does find its groove. What at first seems clunky worldbuilding does eventually come into its own, and the humour does settle into something that is actually funny.
The narrator is a bit too clipped to my liking, but it doesn't break the story.
It's also rather nice to get metric measurements for a change :)

Histoire
Jake is working at the neighborhood market under his apartment when the world ends. He expected nuclear war, a computer virus, or even climate change burning everyone to a crisp to bring about the downfall of civilization. But cruel and arbitrary gods from another world? Who would have guessed that? When these cruel gods shuffled Earth like a deck of cards, nothing was in the same place anymore. Monsters, dungeons, and magical items appear scattered across the globe. And suddenly, everyone has access to a new, strange magical card system that gives them magical powers.
