Histoire
Our naked eyes see only a thin sliver of reality. We are blind in comparison to the X-rays that peer through skin, the mass spectrometers that detect the dead inside the living, or the high-tech surveillance systems that see with artificial intelligence. And we are blind compared to the animals that can see in infrared, or ultraviolet, or in 360-degree vision. These animals live in the same world we do, but they see something quite different when they look around.

Empiricist enthusiasm and Malthusian dread wedded in a plea for a new humanity. Not worth the time unless you want to revel in how bad humanity is and our need to be better.

Histoire
Here are the thrills, grandeur, and unabashed fun of the Greek myths, stylishly retold by Stephen Fry. The legendary writer, actor, and comedian breathes life into ancient tales, from Pandora's box to Prometheus's fire, and transforms the adventures of Zeus and the Olympians into emotionally resonant and deeply funny stories, without losing any of their original wonder. Learned notes from the author offer rich cultural context. This volume is a doorway into a captivating world.

This is the Best

This is the best synopsis of Greek myth I have ever encountered. The depth of Fry's knowledge is amply displayed in the lively, engaging, reading.

Meh. Give it a pass.

A Story that tries to be a Lovecraftian mystery thriller and fails at all three. The only redeeming quality is the performer does a passable job except that all female characters sound like southern belles.

Histoire
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

The Illicit Love Child
Évalué le: 2020-02-16
Agatha Christie and Bram Stoker, in a blaze of passion ignited and consummated during Mrs. Christie's unusual missing time, produced a child. His name is Jonathon L. Howard. And if can imagine the fusion of Hercule Poirot and Dracula, you will have Johannes Cabal, the detective.
An excellent story. The performance by Robin Sachs is perfect for the matter at hand.
