Histoire
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

Ahh the Bobiverse!
Plop on a bean bag chair, order a coffee from Jeeves and dive in. Dennis E Taylor doesnt disappoint!
My only complaint is I finished it too quickly.

Histoire
Freeway Rick Ross: The Untold Autobiography is an intimate look at the day-to-day dealings of a drug kingpin in the heart of the ghetto. It's also the story of a boy born in poverty in Texas who grew up in a single-parent household in the heart of South Central, who was pushed through the school system each year and came out illiterate. His options were few, and he turned to drug dealing. This untold autobiography is not only personal, but also historical in its implications.

Whitest narrator ever

Very inspiring story about the life of the REAL Rick Ross. This being a “freeway production” and Rick being a shrewd business as illustrated many times throughout the story it was an interesting choice to have the voice of Rick in this story be an older white guy. Made me laugh which wasn’t the intent I don’t think.

Histoire
Dirk Struan rose from humble beginnings to build Struan & Company, also known as the Noble House, into the world’s largest Far East trading company. He is now the Tai-Pan—Supreme Leader—of all Tai-Pans in China. Along the way, however, he made a powerful enemy. Tyler Brock, Struan’s rival from their early opium-smuggling days, also heads a large trading fleet, second in size only to Struan’s. But it is not only silks and spices that drive their mutual companies’ wealth—the opium trade is still booming.

Just as good as Shogun, epic ending. Incredible narrator
Évalué le: 2024-09-09
I have listened to over 50 books on audible in the past two years and I can confidently say this is the best reader I’ve ever heard. Excellent accents, inflections and emotions of characters. A listen is worth it for that alone.
At its heart Tai-Pan is a father son tale, and the growing pains of that relationship. But the full story is so epic and filled with complex characters, and events that it will keep pulling you in deeper and deeper.
Highly recommend.

Histoire
After Englishman John Blackthorne is lost at sea, he awakens in a place few Europeans know of and even fewer have seen—Nippon. Thrust into the closed society that is seventeenth-century Japan, a land where the line between life and death is razor-thin, Blackthorne must negotiate not only a foreign people, with unknown customs and language, but also his own definitions of morality, truth, and freedom. As internal political strife and a clash of cultures lead to seemingly inevitable conflict, Blackthorne’s loyalty and strength of character are tested by both passion and loss.

I have watch 3 episodes of the show, yet in the past 2 weeks I could not stop listening to 40 hours of content!
This story pulls you in and transports you!
Yes the audio editor SHOULD be shot for weird fades, but after a couple hours you don’t notice it.
The narrator does great voices and I laugh every time he says “BASTARD!”

Love how the narrator says “BASTARD” or does an impression of the falcon “ECK EKC EKC!!”

Histoire
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty’s Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as “the prize of all the oceans,” it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia.

I loved this story! It’s history and drama, it was well researched I just wish it was better delivered.
The narrator is just way over acting, his delivery doesn’t suit the context, or he is just way over drama cheesy. The only worse narrators I’ve heard on audible are musicians reading their own bio who are lost delivering their own story.
Worth listening to sample to see if you can handle it.

Histoire
The Khao San Road, Bangkok—first stop for the hordes of rootless young Westerners traveling in Southeast Asia. On Richard's first night there, in a low-budget guest house, a fellow traveler slashes his wrists, bequeathing to Richard a meticulously drawn map to "the Beach." The Beach, as Richard has come to learn, is the subject of a legend among young travelers in Asia: a lagoon hidden from the sea, with white sand and coral gardens, freshwater falls surrounded by jungle, plants untouched for a thousand years.

A friend who is an avid reader recommended this book after I finished Lonesome dove and wanted something similarly epic. Of course I knew this was a 90s movie and heard it was “bad/weird” so the book recommendation was a surprise. I trusted her taste and was very glad I did. It’s a good summer/holiday read for those who also like psychological thrillers. Picturesque and disturbing. You can get away from it all, but when you’re away you’re still stuck with yourself

Histoire
Tom Segura is known for his twisted takes and irreverent comedic voice. But after a few years of crazy tours and churning out podcasts weekly, all while parenting two young children, he desperately needs a second to himself. It’s not that he hates his friends and family — he’s not a monster — he’s just beat, which is why his son’s (ruthless) first full sentence, “I’d like to play alone, please,” has since become his mantra.

Despite having listened to both YMH and 2 bears for years without missing an episode, watching all of Tom’s specials and seeing him live multiple times, this book still had fresh stories, deeper details, and was performed in a way that only comedians at his level can tell a story. Thank you Tom for this wonderful book. I finished it in 2 days.

Histoire
Rising young comedian Moshe Kasher is lucky to be alive. He started using drugs when he was just 12. At that point, he had already been in psychoanlysis for 8 years. By the time he was 15, he had been in and out of several mental institutions, drifting from therapy to rehab to arrest to...you get the picture. But Kasher in the Rye is not an "eye opener" to the horrors of addiction. It's a hilarious memoir about the absurdity of it all.

Got in to Moshe from the now defunct 'champs' podcast. My friend had this book and i borrowed it and it was truly inspiring.
I decided this year to revisit it in audiobook form because i love both Moshe's voice, his story telling abilities, and his story.
It did not disappoint.
