Membership Requirements

Specialty Fellow Members must be certified by a Board other than a pediatric board (i.e. The American Board of Pediatrics or the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatrics). Specialty Fellows must meet the requirements as determined by the section/council through which they are applying. Please check the requirements for the applicable section/council before submitting the application. Specialty Fellow applicants will be required to join their specialty section/council.

Sections and Councils are the professional home within the AAP for pediatric surgical specialists. As a member, you can:

  • Help develop policy, clinical guidelines, and research
  • Participate in education development for pediatricians, surgical specialists, and medical subspecialists in your area of expertise
  • Engage in scholarly pursuits such as speaking, writing, and other content development
  • Hold leadership positions on section/council executive committees and subcommittees
  • Participate in CPT and payer advocacy in your area of pediatric medicine
  • Stay connected via section/council member-only content on collaboration sites, topic-specific eNewsletters, and regular listserv updates
