Description: The goal of this workshop is to familiarize with the workflow of the Wikimaps project uploading, rectifying and using historical maps. The workshop will be divided into two sections:

• Hands-on walktrough of bringing historical maps to Wikimedia: upload, classification, import to Wikimaps Warper, tracing, export or usage in a wiki.
• Brainstorming ideas for future wiki events and GLAM collaborations with geographic data, and gathering feedback from previous experiences.
• presentation of crowdsourcing geotagging platform Ajapaik.ee by Vahur Puik

Purpose: To make visible the possibilities of historical geographic documents in Wikimedia projects and to sketch a path for future activities.

Targeted participants:

• Anyone interested
• GLAM volunteers working with institutions and communities with interest in historical geographic materials
• GLAM representatives with maps collections
• Developers interested in developing the possibilities further
• Digital Humanities scholars looking for new methods

Preparatory readings or materials:

• An updated tutorial will be created in the coming weeks
• Identify one high quality, relatively modern map or a set of maps for you to work with. The maps should already be in Wikimedia Commons. If you wish to work with a set of maps that has several sheets, please make sure that they have the Map template in advance.

4. I think I know the nordic wikimaps project well enough, but if suitable I may want to discuss about other ways to provide time/space/topic-based browsing of historical objects, e.g. Paolo Monti geocoded photos. Nemo 20:34, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
