Shouldn't the batch file to run a server look closer to this? "steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2 Dedicated Server\srcds.exe"

And the path to the cfg folder look like this C:\hlserver\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2 Dedicated Server\tf\cfg

When I go into steamapps the only file that appears is libraryfolders.vpk, can anyone tell me if I did something wrong?

Issue on folders created by SteamCMD

The guide says the configuration files are located in C:\TF2server\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2 Dedicated server\tf\cfg, but the common\Team Fortress 2 Dedicated server\tf\cfg folders are never created by SteamCMD. tf\cfg are, but are in C:\TF2Server.

Are you sure you did it correctly? I downloaded the link on the article and C:\TF2server\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2 Dedicated Server was created just fine, including tf folders and its contents. You may have to redo it several times until it's done correctly, or you've pointed a filepath somewhere wrong.

I redid it according to the steps in the guide and the only folders created in steamapps are downloading and temp. Common is never created, and the server files are in the user-specified directory (C:\TF2Server), with the configs being in C:\TF2server\tf\cfg.
Portal-Gamer-410 (talk) 18:11, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
Could the issue be that your user-specified directory is TF2Server while the configs are in TF2server?

When creating the server using the instructions, only one folder is created (C:\tf2server), where all the files are located. No other folders are created by SteamCMD.
Portal-Gamer-410 (talk) 00:04, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
When I created it, it created many other folders, I think you may have put in something wrong, they're all created on my end.

It creates all of the server files wherever force_install_dir is specified (C:\tf2server) and puts all of the server files there (srcds is in C:\tf2server and the config files are in C:\tf2server\tf\cfg). SteamCMD doesn't create any other folders in C:\, only in C:\tf2server

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────I'm not really sure what to tell you, mine looks like this. It definitely creates all these folders on my end, I'm not sure what went wrong on your end but removing all the folders is incorrect.

Those folders are not created in the directory that force_install_dir (C:\tf2server) is set to, unlike what the guide says. The server isn't downloaded into SteamCMD's folder and there's no common folder in either directory.
Portal-Gamer-410 (talk) 01:17, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
For what it's worth I followed the guide and got the C:\TF2server\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2 Dedicated Server just fine so the issue seems to be entirely on your end. Not really sure what to suggest but it works just fine for me and GrampaSwood. Mediarch User Mediarch PFP.pngTalkMy Edits 01:23, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
They are, see this image. The force_install_dir is this. It seems like you just followed the guide wrong. The /tf/ folder is here.

When I do it with the latest version of SteamCMD, no common folder ends up being created. I ran SteamCMD with the tf2_ds.txt file as the guide describes. Here's what happens on my end. Not sure what I'd be doing wrong.

Did you run update.bat?
BLU Wiki Cap.png | s | GrampaSwood Praise the Sun! (talk) (contribs) 01:33, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
All update.bat does is attempt to re-download/update the server files, which just gives me the message Success! App '232250' already up to date.
Portal-Gamer-410 (talk) 01:37, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
It only creates the common folder if you set the force_install_dir to the same directory as SteamCMD. I think the instruction that tells the user to do that should be changed, as SteamCMD says "Please set the game install path to something other than the Steam install folder" and the common folder won't exist if the user wants to place the game files somewhere else.

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Seems like the guide is wrong on that part then, must've been outdated from a long time ago (or simply not have been an issue before). I'll change the guide to mention it, as reinstalling it on a different location made the folders show up like that. Doing it through the guide's steps makes it generate the common folders, which is what must've confused us.
