Avslappet modus er et offisielt spillmodus utgitt for Team Fortress 2/no. Denne modusen erstattet Quickplay/no etter Meet Your Match oppdateringen.
I Avslappet modus blir du som regel sendt til et spill i oppsettsfasen, og til en server som opererer i nærmeste beliggenhet til deg. Du blir sortert inn i et spill som oppfyller disse to kriteriene, men spillet vil likevel noen ganger ikke oppfylle disse (det kan være operert fra et mindre nærliggende land eller sortere deg inn i et spill som allerede har startet) hvis tilgjengelighet er begrenset. I tillegg kan du filtrere hvilke kart du vil spille på. Filtreringsmetoden er splittet først mellom "Hovedspillmoduser" og "Alternative Spillmoduser". I Hovedspillmoduser kan du filtrere deg inn på separat basis i Attack/Defend, Ta flagget, Kontrollpunkter (f.eks., 5 CP), Kongen på haugen, og Nyttelast. I Alternative Spillmoduser kan du filtrere deg inn på separat basis i Nyttelastkappløp, Diverse (altså spill som kan ikke passer i andre kategorier), Mannsterk, og PASS Time. Under sesongbegivenheter, kan tilleggskategorier legges til, slik som utvalgte Halloween-kart mens Halloween-begivenheten pågår. I alle disse underkategoriene kan individuelle kart filtreres ut individuelt.
I Avslappet modus kan du også starte eller bli med i en "gruppe", hvilket er en midlertidig samling an 6 spillere maksimalt. Denne gruppen vil da kobles til servere samtidig, og alle spillere i gruppen vil være på samme lag. Når et spill avsluttes, er gruppen fremdeles sammensveiset. Gruppen vil kun oppløses om alle spillere avslutter deltagelsen i gruppen. Tidligere kunne man bli med i spill med Steam-venner gjennom å trykke "Join Game" på deres Steam profil. Dette er nå ikke lenger mulig i Avslappet modus, begrunnet av at moduset har skrudd av "ad-hoc tilkoblinger". Dette er fremdeles mulig når en venn er i en sammfunnsserver.
Avslappet modus har et nivåsystem som kun er estetisk. Man får "erfaringspoeng" fra å vinne, samt alle poengene man innsanker i et spill. Det er hele 150 nivåer, der hvert enkelt nivå krever flere erfaringspoeng enn det forrige. Hvert nivå endrer designet på din "Mynt", som er synlig oppe til venstre på Hovedmenyen. Disse nivåene er først oppdelt i seks divisjoner, Sivil, Frilans, Leiesoldat, Spesialjeger, Snikmorder og Elite, der Sivil er den laveste divisjonen og Elite er den høyeste. Hver divisjon består av 25 nivåer. Hver divisjon endrer også fargen på Mynten din, som går fra lyseblå til en dyp rødfarge. Med hver divisjon finnes fem under-divisjoner, hvilket består av fem typer Mynter. I den første av disse under-divisjonene, får du en vanlig Mynt. Heretter legges det til en stjerne per gang du går opp i nivå, fem ganger. Hvert femte nivå legges det til flere tilbehør på mynten din, men antall stjerner reduseres tilbake til én. Etter 25 nivåer fjernes tilbehøret, men du bytter om til en ny type Mynt, og starter på nytt.
I tillegg til nivåer og divisjoner finnes det grader. Etter du passerer det 150. nivå, blir du igjen satt tilbake til nivå 1, men du blir satt opp til 1. grad, og din Mynt endrer seg sådan. Det er 8 grader alt i alt, og dermed er det maksimale nivået 150 i 8. grad.
Nivåsystemet i Avslappet modus er bare en overfladisk funksjon som viser hvor mye og hvor godt du har spilt med medspillere. Disse nivåene forsvinner/forfaller ikke, og de påvirker ikke spillsortering. Avslappet modus sine nivåer er annerledes fra Konkurransespillingsmodusets rangeringer; Konkurransespillingsmodusets rangeringer påvirker spillsortering og kan også forsvinne/forfalle.[1]

, en server-regel som tvangs-deaktiverer brukertilpassede filer (med unntak HUDer og skadelyder) på Valves offisielle servere.

- Join Halloween matches by selecting the "Halloween" category in Casual
- Added "Load Saved Settings" and "Save Current Settings" buttons to the Casual mode Map Selection menu.
- Search criteria is now manually saved to give players more control over the default settings when the game is launched.
- XP earned in Casual matches has been adjusted to reward players more for their personal contribution to the match.
- XP per point has returned to 6.5 XP per point.
- XP earned for match completion and objective completion now scales based on your score relative to total amount of points scored by everyone in the match.
- Increased the matchmaker's priority of matches with imbalanced teams.
- This should reduce the occurrence of extended imbalanced matches when multiple players leave.
- Fixed Casual search criteria being saved automatically while connecting to a server.

- Matchmaking Improvements.
- At the end of a Casual match, players are automatically formed into a new match with the same players and teams.
- Players get to vote on which map the new match will take place on.
- There are 3 maps to vote on, chosen based on the maps everyone in the match had selected when they began searching for a match. The current map is always the first option.
- This replaces the Rematch system.
- Players get to vote on which map the new match will take place on.
- Players can now set their maximum acceptable ping by clicking the new gear icon in the top right of the Casual and Competitive matchmaking lobby screens and choosing "Ping Settings".

20 oktober 2017 Patch #1 (Jungle Inferno Update)
- Redesigned the matchmaking screens to be lightweight overlays that can be summoned and dismissed from anywhere within the game.
- Moved the Casual badge panel to the main menu.
- Levels now go beyond 150. All players now have a Tier in addition to their Level. All players start at Tier 1. When your Level goes past 150 your Level resets to 1, your Tier goes up by 1, and your Casual badge will change its appearance to reflect your new status.
- Players who had reached level 150 will have any experience beyond 45500 (the amount required to hit 150) put into an overflow pool. While playing Casual matches, any XP you earn will be matched and deducted from your overflow pool until it runs out.
- The "Vote for the next map!" dialog can now be minimized to view the top scoring players.

- Casual Mode now uses the Glicko skill rating system behind the scenes to better create balanced matches and group players by skill level

Problemer
- Occasionally, the "Vote For Next Map" option may not allow players to vote, or so it may appear to a player joining just after the vote closed.
- This can be countered by entering
next_map_vote
0, 1, or 2 in the console. 0 will vote for the first map, and 2 will vote for the 3rd map.

- If a player gets disconnected in the middle of a match and attempts to rejoin, the player may be kicked for an "ad-hoc connection", despite it being through the matchmaking system, thus preventing the player from joining.
- Badge colors do not appear while in DirectX 8.
