🎉 Exciting news! Dr Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, our talented researcher, has been awarded a prestigious scholarship for a 5-year PhD program in Global Infectious Disease at Georgetown University starting this Autumn 2024. She will focus on integrating social factors and public engagement in infectious disease model development and evaluation. The belief in the importance of preventive measures in promoting public health and her passion for research have shaped her academic path. Upon graduating with a Doctor of Preventive Medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City in 2021, she joined OUCRU to research health behaviors related to infectious diseases. At OUCRU, under the guidance of Prof Bridget Wills, Assoc Prof Jennifer Ilo Van Nuil, and Dr Evelyne Kestelyn, Hang explored perceptions of Vietnamese and international medical students on Human Challenge Studies, with a focus on #Dengue. This study reinforced the importance of including the community's perspectives in developing health research and healthcare programs, which motivates her to pursue a PhD degree. Niềm tin vào tầm quan trọng của các biện pháp phòng ngừa trong nâng cao sức khoẻ cộng đồng và đam mê nghiên cứu khoa học đã định hình con đường theo đuổi tri thức của BS Hằng. Ngay sau khi tốt nghiệp Đại Học Y Dược Tp.Hồ Chí Minh với tấm bằng Bác sĩ Y học Dự phòng năm 2021, BS Hằng gia nhập OUCRU để nghiên cứu về hành vi sức khoẻ trong bệnh truyền nhiễm. Tại OUCRU, dưới sự hướng dẫn của GS , PGS TS Jennifer Van Nuil, và TS Evelyne Kestelyn, BS Hằng đã tham gia Dự án RESHAPE nhằm khám phá quan điểm của sinh viên y khoa Việt Nam và quốc tề về Nghiên cứu thử thách trên người, tập trung vào bệnh Sốt xuất huyết Dengue. Nghiên cứu này củng cố tầm quan trọng của việc xem xét quan điểm của cộng đồng trong thiết kế nghiên cứu lâm sàng và chương trình y tế, từ đó thúc đẩy cô tiếp tục theo đuổi chương trình Tiến sĩ. OUCRU recently hosted the "Agent-based Modelling (ABM) with GAMA" course in partnership with Across Lab and IRD. The course brought together 30 international participants who explored the application of ABM in health science. Led by experienced instructors, the course provided a comprehensive learning experience with intensive lectures, hands-on activities, and engaging group projects. Participants also got to practice using ABM to tackle hot topics such as antimicrobial resistance and regional outbreak risks, gaining practical skills and knowledge in these crucial areas. The OUCRU Infectious Diseases Research and Policy Discussion Forum (IDDF) had its fourth meeting online on May 22. Many members and guests from OUCRU and policy organisations attended. Dr. Evelyne Kestelyn and Assoc Prof Timothy Walker presented new projects on dengue and tuberculosis. World Health Organization Viet Nam discussed the Asia-Pacific Health Security Action Framework and their plan to collaborate with the Ministry of Health. Participants agreed on the need for a simpler process for clinical trials and more collaboration between health organizations in Viet Nam. The forum provides a platform for infectious disease researchers from OUCRU and policy stakeholders in Vietnam to meet, share priorities, seek advice, and collaborate. *** Hội thảo Diễn đàn Nghiên cứu và Chính sách Bệnh truyền nhiễm OUCRU (IDDF) đã tổ chức cuộc họp lần thứ tư trực tuyến vào 22/5. Hội thảo có các thành viên và khách mời từ OUCRU, cũng như các tổ chức có ảnh hưởng trong lĩnh vực chính sách. Trong hội thảo, TS Evelyne Kestelyn và PGS.TS Timothy Walker đã trình bày về các dự án mới về bệnh sốt xuất huyết và bệnh lao. Một trong những điểm nổi bật của cuộc họp là cuộc thảo luận do World Health Organization (WHO) Việt Nam dẫn dắt về Khuôn khổ Hành động An ninh Sức khỏe Châu Á-Thái Bình Dương và kế hoạch hợp tác giữa WHO và Bộ Y tế. Thông qua đó, các thành viên nhận thức được sự cần thiết của việc thiết lập quy trình đơn giản hơn cho thử nghiệm lâm sàng và tăng cường sự hợp tác giữa các tổ chức y tế tại Việt Nam. Diễn đàn Nghiên cứu và Chính sách Bệnh truyền nhiễm OUCRU cung cấp một nền tảng và cơ chế bền vững cho các nhà nghiên cứu bệnh truyền nhiễm của OUCRU và các bên liên quan làm việc trong lĩnh vực chính sách bệnh truyền nhiễm tại Việt Nam để gặp gỡ, chia sẻ và hợp tác.
