We're all going to die eventually. Why not prepare for it early?

Death is strange, and nobody knows what happens afterwards. Maybe it's a long dreamless sleep. Maybe it's a long vacation to the spirit realm. Maybe you haunt the mortal plane, not knowing you're haunting the people who live among the ghosts. Maybe you choose your fate when you see the white light. Mortality is a universal constant, and we mortals have elected beings with powers that we cannot imagine to rule over us. Maybe they hate us, or maybe they love us. Or possibly, the people we chose to rule our petty universe think of us like the wrapper of a treat. Meant to be thrown away, and our contents meant to be consumed.
