The offshore wind sector has seen project finance deal volumes remain consistently low in the first three quarters of 2024. Further offshore wind financings may well reach financial close before the end of 2024, but a very significant number of deals would need to close if 2024 deal volumes were to match those of recent years. The offshore wind sector has faced a number of well-known challenges over the last few years. Supply chain constraints have materially raised costs incurred by the global offshore wind industry following the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, inflationary factors such as higher steel costs have pushed up the capex requirements of offshore wind farms. There are some positive signs for the offshore wind sector, such as falling inflation and interest rates in a number of markets, the renegotiation of many PPAs/OREC contracts in the US, and the UK awarding CfDs to offshore wind projects in the AR6 auction. But there has been an unmistakeable pause in offshore wind financing activity. 📊 Subscribers can access more of Proximo data here: https://lnkd.in/d6wpbxtz If you’re not a subscriber, explore Proximo’s subscription options here: https://lnkd.in/eFbDXRyh #ProjectFinance #InfrastructureFinance #ProximoData #OffshoreWind #Renewables #SupplyChain #WindFarms Source: #ProximoIntelligence
