Ireland utility-scale energy storage forecast to exceed 1.5GWh in 2025 The energy storage market in Ireland continues to show strong growth potential. While still in the early stages of site construction, new additions are now providing a strong uptick in activity. Year-on-year additional capacity built this year remains at a steady rate; 720MWh of energy storage was operational at the end of 2023 and cumulative operational capacity is predicted to reach over 1.7GWh by the end of 2025. Our market analyst, Mollie McCorkindale reports massive growth potential for battery storage in UK and Ireland. The energy storage market in the UK is currently experiencing substantial growth, as evidenced by the current operational capacity of 4.6GW/5.9GWh, projected to increase to 7.4GW/11.6GWh by the end of 2024. The installed capacity is consistently rising each year, attributable to a notable upsurge in both submitted and approved planning applications. Similarly, energy storage that is co-located with solar farms in the UK is following a similar trend, with 312MW/465MWh currently in operation.
