🌍✨ Exited to announce the official launch of our startup accelerator programme in partnership with UNICEF, continuing our support of their impactful #Innovation30 initiative! 🚀 https://lnkd.in/eGwtgXu4 From October to December, we will host six engaging masterclass sessions, bringing together over 60 participants, including 40 UNICEF country office staff from 20 global south countries. This truly global cohort will explore broad sustainability topics, enriching the learning experience for all involved. Additionally, we’re thrilled to provide three months of dedicated mentorship for 14 innovative startups, helping to elevate their solutions for climate challenges. 🌍 Today Canopy members and our team were delighted to attend an inspiring Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) Lunch & Learn on "Climate Tech Ventures in Emerging Markets" led by Priya Shah Founder & General Partner of Theia Ventures. 🌱 The event shed light on the urgent need for climate resilience and the key role venture investments play in shaping a sustainable future, particularly in the Global South. It’s startling to remind people that global temperatures have already risen by 1.2°C, and climate change could drive over 100 million people into extreme poverty. Now more than ever, we need innovation to tackle these pressing challenges. Some key takeaways: 1️⃣ Climate tech investment is growing rapidly, with over $142 billion in global funding between 2020 and 2023. Sectors like clean energy, electric transportation, and battery technology are leading the charge. 🌱🔋 2️⃣ India, in particular, stands out as a potential climate tech leader due to its robust venture ecosystem, policy support, and a growing pool of entrepreneurs and scientists. With initiatives like the Green Hydrogen Policy and EV mandates, India is setting the pace for the global green transition. 🚗🔋 3️⃣ When looking at the Indian market, some of the biggest opportunities lie in business model innovation. It's not just about unearthing brand new tech - they see huge value and impact potential in scaling existing technology through new business models and approaches. 4️⃣ Theia Ventures itself is pioneering this space, investing in transformative solutions like smart grids, battery recycling, and carbon markets. It was especially fascinating to hear about their portfolio companies such as alt-M, focused on biomaterials, and Metastable Materials, advancing battery recycling in India. 🔄⚡ Priya closed with a powerful quote from Al Gore, which perfectly captured the spirit of the talk: "We’re now in the early stages of a sustainability revolution... with the potential to completely reshape our world for the better." 🌍 Thank you to Priya for an incredible session!
