The Education Endowment Foundation have published the latest edition of one of their most popular guidance reports, A School’s Guide to Implementation. The guidance is designed to support school leaders and decision-makers in implementing change in the most effective way. It’s focused on three key elements: ▫ The behaviours that drive effective implementation,  ▫ the contextual factors that facilitate it,  ▫ and a structured, but flexible, process to enact it. Reading about the crisis facing alternative provision (AP) schools and pupil referral units, as highlighted by a compelling article on TES, reveals pressing challenges within our education system. With more than three-quarters of APs reporting an increase in pupil numbers compared to previous years and almost 40% of councils having waiting lists for PRU places, the surge in demand for AP places underscores the need for systemic change. Exclusion rates have returned to pre-pandemic levels, with a nearly 50% increase in exclusions in the autumn term of 2022-23 compared to the previous year, further emphasise the urgency of addressing underlying issues. How can we foster a more inclusive education system that effectively supports all students? Prioritising adequate funding and resources for high-quality alternative provision is crucial. This discussion is key for shaping the future of education.
