We're delighted to support three of our newest #MedTech spinouts to join the MedTech Venture Builder, led by the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering. 𝐍𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐬 is developing a medical device set to revolutionise detection of coronary artery disease. A patch placed on the chest captures the sounds and skin movements of disturbed blood flow as it navigates through coronary arteries narrowed due to disease. It could be used by a nurse outside of a hospital, meaning people can be diagnosed earlier and more efficiently. Learn more from founder Prof Stephen Greenwald or CEO Mark Aichroth. 𝐢𝐇𝐞𝐅 is an #AI algorithm which can diagnose heart failure from a simple ECG recording. ECG is a cheap test done early on by a nurse. It could be done in A&E, a GP clinic, or even in the home. By contrast, diagnosing heart failure today is expensive and slow. Heart ultrasound is a key test. It’s complex, requires highly trained staff, and can only be done in a hospital. Two million ultrasounds were performed in the #NHS last year, yet many of those tested don’t have heart failure. Needless testing costs the NHS £600m a year. Learn more from founder Dr Nay Aung. 𝐏𝐫𝐲𝐟𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫 is developing a flexible micro-endoscope using a single multimode optical fiber. Equipment this small would usually be unable to capture a visible image. Pryfiber’s AI algorithm uses deep learning to reorganise the light that travels through the micro-endoscope, recreating accurate and useful images in real time. The news we've all been waiting for: the #InnovateUK #BiomedicalCatalyst competition has finally re-opened! Give me a shout if #BAM can help with your application. Some stats: 7: BAM has secured 7 Biomedical Catalyst grants for our clients in the past couple of years. 6x: our Biomedical Catalyst success rates are more than 6x higher than competition averages. 5x: Biomedical Catalyst UK-wide success rates are 5x higher than Smart (9% vs 1.7%) 4: projects scored over 90 last time. 32: projects were funded last time. 1: mysterious project chose the innovation area "Unknown." 0: experimental development projects were funded last time, of 32 submitted under this category.
