Susan Brench

Pets As Therapy is a national charity founded in 1983. It is unique in that it provides therapeutic visits to hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes, special needs schools and a variety of other venues by volunteers with their own friendly, temperament tested and vaccinated dogs and cats. I have a cocker spaniel who loves meeting people and never fails to make them smile!

An Akemi Associates' shareholder actively volunteers for York Mind and is a qualified mentor for those recovering from mental ill-health whilst Susan Brench is involved in fund-raising.

Kyra Women’s Project began as a support centre for women, run by women, providing encouragement, companionship, information, training, and importantly, a sense of belonging.
Kyra supports women to help overcome challenges and make change in their lives. It acts as a support group to prevent a relapse in behaviour and develop new habits.

York is a great city to visit and live in but it does have significant and unique challenges beyond the Roman and Viking history, river trips and restaurants; I want to make a meaningful contribution to the local community .

I am a keen gardener and also passionate about the RHS message: to enrich everyone's life through plants and to make the UK a greener, more beautiful place. I believe that learning about gardening and horticulture will lead to a greater understanding in society of the nature around us together with key environmental messages. As such I am a volunteer on the events team where I can utilise my experience of events organisation and communications skills.
