UK based SME in the science based technology sectors face a number of challenges on their journey to commercial success. But they mostly don’t have a voice that government listens to. This Industrial Strategy Survey was developed by the SCI® Where Science Meets Business to collect the data needed and will be used to influence government policy https://lnkd.in/eTGJQwhw It won’t take long to fill in, but it will pay off if enough of you fill it in - the greater the response, the less easy it is for government to ignore.

Where next for SMEs and Net Zero? This UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) report, co-authored by Prof Richard Blundel of The Open University Business School, highlights key challenges and opportunities for SMEs in achieving net zero. It draws on evidence from a comprehensive review of policies and business support initiatives along with interviews with 83 governance stakeholders and 30 SMEs. https://ow.ly/6k0q50Slrwx

It’s the Wednesday update! Another grant win: Anionix is moving on to phase 2 of the Climate Innovation Platform, supported by HSBC, HyDEX and University of Birmingham. I’m still ruminating and buzzing over last week’s #Hydrogen #Innovation #Showcase in Manchester, and certain that the next iteration will need to be at least twice the size. It would be exciting to see if all the ideas discussed coalesce into actions under the new government (particularly the thing at the place I cannot mention - you know the one, wink wink), and I’m already working on an Innovate UK Business Connect grant application to look at a useful project with someone else I met. It was great also to chat with other hydrogen nerds like Oort Energy's James Dodwell. Did you know there’s a digital Hydrogen supply chain testbed? Kudos to Digital Catapult and Hydrologiq for making it happen – more info here (they are looking for innovators to use it, with some funding attached) - https://lnkd.in/dd_D2ark Connected Places Catapult are promoting next year’s Connected Places Summit to prospective sponsors, which is now recognised as an award-winning event – and with 40% SME / Innovators, 10% investors, a senior audience and lots of innovators, who could question that? https://lnkd.in/dkfte3FH It’s fascinating speaking to those who are and others who are not supportive of #Hydrogen as a fuel as I engage prospective investors during the Anionix fundraise, but of course it’s quite nuanced as to where money can be made. Apparently, some investors think the whole world is like the UK. It isn’t.. and the next generation of energy production and consumption will be very different, to the extent that new projects, such as those we are working on in #India and #Nepal are a few steps ahead of what can be delivered here. We should all take some time to read this report, published last week by the (independent) IPPR. Then we should be broadcasting the messaging, and lobbying local MP’s (what good timing) and industry bodies. It is at one level preposterous reading, tho at another exciting - about the posibilities not only for our environment and sustainability outlook, but the economic impact too…. - In terms of offshore wind capacity, the UK is second in the world only to China. - UK won’t meet offshore wind targets till 2048, 18 years too late - Thousands of jobs, and billions in revenue, could be generated if UK ramps up manufacturing of wind turbines to meet demand - Think tank calls for industrial strategy to seize economic benefits and reach net zero This Spaceship Earth Tanishq Jain Angus Hamilton Flora Hamilton Koeun Lee https://lnkd.in/ePDZk2XN
