GB Railfreight has started a second daily service to #Widnes intermodal terminal. The almost inevitable origin is #Britain’s biggest intermodal port, #Felixstowe. The weekday service represents a doubling of capacity for #GBRf on the Felixstowe to Widnes route. For rail freight, in general, it’s a significant capacity enhancement on a critical logistics route between the east and west coasts of #GreatBritain. #railfreight #railfreightnews #railcargonews

A big thanks to Multimodal Exhibition for hosting a good panel session - ‘Net Zero: will we decarbonise the road freight sector in time?’ A very relevant topic but also a beast of a question to answer in 45 hours let alone 45 minutes. However, Philip Greening, Colin Synnott and Chris Welch did a mighty fine job of tackling some of the critical enablers to achieving this mammoth task - 1) understanding and awareness, 2) prioritisation, 3) responsibility, 4) collaboration and 5) apportionment of cost. We didn’t even scratch the surface, more of a gentle tickle really! Nevertheless, a massive responsibility we all must bare and lean into. That is non-negotiable. But what was the panel view on whether we can do it on time? Two resounding “Yes’s” and one “It’s possible”.
