Phone: 07552 882 850 Email: [email protected] #businessoflaw #legalindustry #legalethics Firms Urged To Be Patient With Trainees Over New SQE Exam The solicitors qualifying exam introduced in 2021 has caused a ripple in the U.K.'s legal market as it has led some law firms to withdraw offers to trainees, but experts advise firms to curb knee-jerk reactions and embrace a long-term vision to navigate the changes. In recent weeks some of the largest law firms in London — among them Clifford Chance LLP, Macfarlanes LLP and CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP — have rescinded job offers to trainees who failed to pass the first and most difficult part of the assessment on their first try. The Solicitors Regulation Authority hasn't yet published statistics for the January's SQE1 test that prompted firms to pull offers, but earlier data released on Wednesday hints at why some firms might prefer candidates who pass their first time. It showed that initial success rates for SQE1 were 54% and 56% in January and July 2023, while resit success rates plummeted to 14% and 29%.
