"So after working so deeply in governance, how did you end up in OD?" this question was asked by a colleague in 2019. When I transitioned from operations to Organisation Development, it was a surprising turn in my career. Friends and well-wishers did not approve of that decision. Nonetheless, I went ahead. There were instances where I felt that it was a wrong turn but now when I see the accumulated wealth of insight and courage, it's amazing. OD makes you a person who can be employed even in a crisis. 'Running a company' in the market, and 'Running a project' in a company are two different things. The framework for the former is limitless and hence once your brain is wired to think in system creation or innovation or modification way, the game becomes deeply creative; and hence you can't shrink your canvas. In my opinion, everyone in the company must be allowed to function for some time in the OD team. And vice versa. There were a lot of instances when my experience of working with communities, government functionaries, and other systemic players came in handy while dealing situations that team members used to come up with. A competent system can't be designed with conservative allocation. And a large organization can't stand on an incompetent system. CEOs need to think more deeply about OD as the world goes through fundamental changes. #OrgDev #OD #GCG #Governance
