#WebsiteExperts - I need your advice. In November I'll be renewing the hosting for my website - https://lnkd.in/eaFtwbsQ and am currently using #SiteGround. Google giveth & google taketh away. The ABRUPT changes to performance are based on INSTANT DEVALUATION - this WOULD ONLY HAPPEN if the content was deemed to be UNHELPFUL. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THE CONTENT IS BAD! Quite the contrary. Good content isn't always HELPFUL content. The SWINGS & ROUNDABOUTS with the click performance here is predominantly based on the content's "helpfulness". So - I ran a segment to: 👉 Segment out content that dropped from the index altogether 👉 Segment out content that SUDDENLY lost queries served for 👉 Segment out content by SUB FOLDER and then by grouping I then looked at: 👉 Correlative patterns between CONTENT DROPPED FROM INDEX and CONTENT that lost queries (DEVALUATION) What correlations did I look for? 🔍 Content interaction points (CIPs) - were they part of a funnel or a landing page? 🔍 Average engagement time over word count - segmented by DEVICE (using impressions to better understand where more demand existed) 🔍Page uniqueness (in respect of query/query overlap) 🔍Page history/stability and propensity to be indexed by previous updates 🔍 Page hierachy / position in domain (in respect of links) and utilisation of anchors Now OUTSIDE of the correlative analysis I ruled out: ➤ Tech/rendering/crawl issues ➤ Performance issues (CLS/LCP) I took into consideration: ✅ Cannibalisation (ruled out with query gap) ✅ BSV (brand search volume) ✅ Link acquisition (history, accruement, pattern, path, anchor etc) Here's what I saw: ❌ The SERPs shifted where the client lost out - the content to supercede said clients content was of LOWER quality in respect of depth of information - there was ABSOLUTELY a correlation with the SERP shifting on brand authority ❌ Improving "author" scope, editorial process and numerous other E-E-A-T elements had almost NO discernible benefit ❌ Improved link output had no discernible impact BUT the timeframe was too short so it's likely time based factor ✅ User behaviour reviews demonstrated a relatively POOR engagement rate for the volume of content - this may have played a part in the content demise (not limited to the pages that were dropped/suffered) but as a SITEWIDE signal - this is VERY interesting to see ✅ Post recovery last year - SESSIONS increased, engaged users shrank, scroll depth suggested poor ATF/CF engagement ✅ Bounce went up disproportionately - BUT, this may also be down to the long-tail queries Google started serving content for - LOOSE INTENT poorer engagement - which suggests the content was TOO DEEP for most of the relevant queries So - immediately - we now have a foundation for recovery testing: ➤ Reduce content depth (significantly sharpen relevance to lesser queries) ➤ Improve UX ➤ Re-order content based on end user priority ➤ More images, videos away from text ➤ Adjust internal links to "links of more probable value based on potential engagement" ➤ Work to reduce bounce probability (click signal) #seo #seotips

The backend structure that you have in place will either evolve without costing you too much time or money in the process of doing so or cause your growth to feel stunted If you find you are subconciously holding back on the elements that will propel growth, its a clear sign that you need to implementing the right systems to support the goals that you have put in place. Next time you get a brief that has just “Millennials” or just “Gen Z” for the target, share this chart. I've just now come across this BBH Labs data that challenges this default method for targeting.   Researchers gave groups of people in the UK a survey asking questions about attitudes and beliefs. Then they sliced them into different groups and compared their "Group Cohesion Score" – that is, how similarly a group answered the survey questions.   Turns out that people of all ages who floss and people of all ages who drink Orangina have more in common than any of the recognized generational groups. 😆   Full report: https://lnkd.in/eVjbViHZ
