    Activities and Societies: Involved in Green Politics and stood (unsuccessfully) as a Green Councillor in York; Nightline (student counselling service) Coordinator; amateur dramatics; various political societies (Palestinian Rights, Nicaragua Solidarity).

    Did one year of a History and Politics Degree with courses on American Politics, French 18th Century History, and Politics in the Novels of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky with the wonderful Prof. Jacques Berthoud. Then, partly inspired by him, I changed to English & Comparative Literature taking courses in Victorian Fiction, American 20th Century Writing, Moliere and Racine, and Medieval Literature.   • Preventing Homelessness: Supporting Tenants with Alcohol Problems

    Based on interviews with people with alcohol problems, the report examines the issue of supporting tenants with alcohol problems from both their perspective and that of housing managers. Highlights the severe effect that alcohol has and the high incidence of homelessness at some stage in the lives of people with alcohol problems.

  • Living in the Shadows: The Accommodation Needs and Preferences of Homelessness Street Drinkers

    Leeds Accommodation Forum

    A study funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation which examined the challenges to conventional homelessness providers and provision presented by people who could not or would not stop drinking. At a time when many hostels were 'dry', the challenge was significant. The cost however was lives lost on the streets.
