Yet, as guardians of care quality, nurse executives understand that imprecise cuts to personnel can have adverse care outcomes.
Research from the Global Centre for Nursing Executives indicates…In health care settings, rising costs over time have outpaced gains made in productivity, leading to unprecedented cost pressures. As a consequence of this financially-constrained environment, many health care executives look to find short- to medium-term savings within the nursing labour budget. Yet, as guardians of care quality, nurse executives understand that imprecise cuts to personnel can have adverse care outcomes.
Research from the Global Centre for Nursing Executives indicates there is a way to cut labour costs without cutting personnel. This study provides nurse leaders with a four-step manual for reducing their labour costs while safeguarding their staff and the care they deliver.

NHS England recently published their 2024/25 Delivery plan to improve #primarycareaccess ... however, there was not 1 mention of the use of #ai or #analytics... Here is my thoughts on how AI could change the primary care picture... add your ideas in the comments: Predictive Models in Primary Care 📈 : models can help identify patients at risk of specific health conditions or deteriorations. Example: Imagine a predictive model that analyzes electronic health records (EHRs) and patient data to identify individuals at high risk of developing diabetes. By analyzing factors such as age, family history, lifestyle, and biomarkers, the model can proactively recommend preventive measures, lifestyle changes, or early interventions to reduce the risk of diabetes. This empowers primary care providers to offer personalized care and prevent disease progression. AI Chatbots 🤖 : can handle routine inquiries, provide health information, and assist patients. Example: Consider an AI chatbot integrated into a primary care practice’s website or app. Patients can interact with the chatbot to schedule appointments, ask questions about symptoms, or get general health advice. The chatbot can provide immediate responses, freeing up administrative staff and allowing patients to access information 24/7. Resource Allocation ⏲ : optimize resource allocation within primary care settings. Example: An AI-driven system can analyze appointment data, patient demographics, and historical trends to predict peak demand times. Based on this analysis, it can recommend optimal staffing levels during busy periods. Additionally, AI can assist in allocating resources such as medical supplies, equipment, and staff based on real-time patient needs. Efficient resource allocation ensures timely care delivery and reduces waiting times for patients. AI Triage 👩⚕️ : Streamline patient triage and prioritize urgent cases. Example: The eHub by eConsult Health is an AI-powered triage tool that assesses patient symptoms and routes them to the appropriate level of care. For instance, a patient reporting chest pain might be flagged as high priority, while someone with a minor skin rash could be directed to self-care advice. By automating initial assessments, AI triage systems ensure that urgent cases receive prompt attention, while non-urgent cases are managed efficiently .

Abridge Kaiser Permanente take the partnership plunge. In actively piloting various opportunities in the #AI-enabled scribe space, so far it’s obvious: • This solution has game-changed how I practice and my approach to outpatient clinic workflow. • I feel this solution impacts provider efficiency, decreases #PajamaTime spent after work, not with our family but rather buried in the EMR — thus giving us back what’s most important — our time. • I’d offer the biggest disruption is how this AI-enabled innovation allows me to be more human, increasing the doctor-patient connection and my ability to more directly engage eye-to-eye about my patient’s health. • With so much inertia in this particular space for AI Healthcare, I feel some applications/vendors have a product advantage, all need richer ability for bespoke customization, speciality-focused nuance, and added EMR application/back office integration. It will happen in time. 💥🎤⬇️: Combine this novel innovation with EMR voice-enabled orders and auto billing/charge capture capability - akin to the rotary dial on a telephone, one day we may no longer will need a keyboard to provide outpatient clinical care.
