One of the (few) areas of health and wellness I haven't had much opportunity to explore in my work is perimenopause. This #MenopauseAwarenessMonth, I've learned much, much more working on a perimenopause campaign for ŌURA. Turns out, it's not surprising that even me, as a woman and health journalist, didn't know much about this topic. Like so many other women's health areas, perimenopause is sadly an underserved area in terms of education, research, and solutions, even in the primary healthcare field. Just a few of the (not-so-fun) facts we unearthed: 🚺 Only 28% of women say they know what to expect in perimenopause.  🚺 Perimenopause can begin as early as your mid-30s. 🚺 Up to 60% of women experience sleep disturbances in menopause. 🚺 Among Oura members, we see a 33% increase in late perimenopausal women tagging "Anger," a 44% increase in "Migraine" tags, and a 51% increase in "Acne" tags. Fun stuff! 🤦‍♀️ At Oura, we are committed to building a future where every woman feels holistically understood and supported in their health. While it may not be a perfect tool, a wearable like Oura Ring can give women who are otherwise in-the-dark about their perimenopause symptoms more in-depth information about their bodies. The silence surrounding men’s ageing is deafening.    Whilst we as a society generally understand the term 'menopause' to help explain 'middle-age' related change in women, men have no equivalent framing narrative for their mid-life change. But #researchers and #support staff working on the #ClimateCrisis are rarely given the space to reflect on the #impact their work has on their own #wellbeing and its impact on others. When was the last time you could be open your own #vulnerability and what you need to look after yourself – to be #resilient? When was the last time you were given #space to work with others to explore new ways your work could have #impact? I’m a qualified #reflective #writing facilitator and a #climate #communications specialist. #Reflective #writing for #wellbeing is one tool people in the #climate space can use to explore their relationships with their work, how it makes them #feel and its impact. It’s also a way to gain valuable #insight and #data into the impact of working on the #frontlines of the #ClimateCrisis. I design and facilitate writing workshops. The Parenting Out Loud campaign officially launches tomorrow!   I’ll be on BBC Radio London at 2.10pm talking about the importance of working dads being loud and proud about their childcare responsibilities at work. Parenting Out Loud is essential for equal parenting and gender equality at both work and home. Parenting Out Loud may not sound like a revolutionary act, but fathers parenting loudly at work is vital for changing how we all think about dads and male carers. When dads parent loudly, we help normalise male caring in the workplace and role model this behaviour for others. We remove the stigma around male caring and help change the narrative around fatherhood in the workplace. I’ll also be talking about paternity leave, the poor statutory policy we have in the UK, the progressive employers who have introduced enhanced leave and why paternity leave is key to reducing the motherhood penalty, outcomes for children and father’s wellbeing.   #ParentingOutLoud #PaternityLeave #EqualParentalLeave #WorkingDads
