This week, NIDS hosts the IWP meeting with Egypt. As Egypt is on the Phase 3 of the Milestones Approach, with all four blocks of its NPP under construction, the role of the IWP is crucial at this stage. In 2.5 days, the IAEA team will develop a robust plan to support Egypt during this significant phase, including planning for the upcoming IAEA missions. #Nuclear #Nonproliferation #Safeguards require good recordkeeping in order to be effective. Each facility subject to safeguards in States with a Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement is supposed to have a completed "Facility Attachment". The Facility Attachment defines the arrangement of accounting conventions that apply to the facility. The diagram shows a common arrangement for a reactor facility. It has a single Material Balance Area (MBA) which has six Key Measurement Points (KMP). Three of these are flow KMPs where material enters the facility (receipts of fresh fuel), leaves the facility (shipments of spent fuel) or is changed in character at the facility (irradiation in the core of the reactor). There are also three inventory KMPs - these are locations where facility inventory is stored or used. The IAEA inspectors can verify the material in inventory KMPs during regular inspections. Other arrangements of flow and inventory KMPs are possible, but most are similar to the diagram. The Facility Attachment will include details of the types and physical forms of the nuclear material that is expected to be used at the facility. Changes to the Facility Attachment can be requested by either party at any time, but usually the Facility Attachments remain relatively static for very long periods of time.

What makes writing a proposal for a #USAID IDIQ different than a "typical" proposal? 1. Scope and Flexibility: IDIQ proposals cover a broad range of services across multiple countries or regions, requiring flexibility and scalability in approach. Unlike single-country programs, which focus on a defined area with a narrower scope, IDIQ proposals require bidders to show USAID that they can successfully perform a broad swath of potential projects. 2. Institutional Capacity: Because IDIQs are so broad, the proposal often focuses on your organization's institutional capacity and capabilities more than a typical technical approach. Since the scopes of work for future task orders are still unknown, this helps USAID evaluate bidders based on the strength of their technical track record, compliance, and financial systems. 3. Case Studies or Scenarios: USAID will sometimes include case studies to gauge how offerors will approach activity design and implementation at the task order level. This helps give USAID insight into bidders' ability to respond to various problem-sets. As you can see, IDIQ proposals are quite different and require a broader, more "high-level" view of your organization's strengths and comparative advantages. In this August 2021 Building Migrant Resilience in Cities webinar researchers presented a project that documents how access to information influenced collective resilience, settlement, and social inclusion among Yazidi refugees and Turkish-speaking refugee claimants in York Region. The project is very relevant to current and ongoing sector conversations about providing information, especially the reminders of tailoring information, in-language info, and building rapport/trust with communities in an ever-increasing ecosystem of mis- and disinformation. What do you need to know? Information access is essential for newcomers to achieve successful resettlement and social inclusion. Among Yazidi refugees and Turkish-speaking refugee claimants in York Region, trust was a central factor in determining information seeking strategies. Trust in information sources was shaped by newcomers' social networks and formal agencies' capacity to meet newcomers' needs, as well as pre-migration social and political factors. Increasing groups' capacity to provide mutual support was suggested as a promising way to ensure access to relevant and useful information. How can you use this research? Three main recommendations emerged for improving newcomers’ access to accurate and useful information. 1. Since newcomers’ information access strategies are complex and shaped by pre- and post-migration factors, strategies for sharing information must be tailored for each community. Agencies need time and resources to learn about the political, social and cultural history of each newcomer group. 2. Providing services in newcomers' preferred language is essential and plays a central role in trust-building. 3. Building community resilience by supporting each group’s own strategies to enhance community-led information initiatives may be effective in ensuring access to accurate, relevant, and useful information. https://lnkd.in/eFF37Kyg

"G7 confirmation. The invitation and subsequent acceptance of Emirati presence at the G7 summit demonstrates the great awareness in Italy that Abu Dhabi can play a significant role in solving various international crises. From climate change to the increasingly central issue of artificial intelligence, the UAE is at the forefront of new global challenges.  Whether they host COP28 or the recent agreement between Emirati company G42 and Microsoft, the two countries will undoubtedly discuss these critical issues at the talks in Borgo Egnazia. Strategic vision. Ambassador Fanara attributes the UAE’s growing international standing primarily to the evolving vision of the Emirati leadership, which aims to make the country a bridge between Europe, Africa, and Asia. The UAE recognizes the importance of investing in connectivity, whether the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) or the railway project with Iraq, Turkey, and Qatar to connect the Gulf to Europe by rail. There is an equal focus on the capabilities of ports and airports, with companies like Abu Dhabi Ports and DP World making significant investments in African ports. The new futuristic Abu Dhabi airport, directed by Italian Elena Sorlini, has also been recently inaugurated.  The UAE has fostered an investment-friendly climate, attracting significant foreign capital and positioning itself as a new financial and commercial hub."
