You know that your website doesn't have to be as dry as a sandpaper sarnie, right? I know, I know. All your competitors write like that. It's industry standard, blah, blah, blah. But why would you want to be standard? Don't you want to be the one who stands out, who pokes your head out of the corner that everyone else is clustered in and says: 'Hey, these guys are dull, d'you want to get out of here?' It can be scary bucking the status quo and doing something different, but here's the thing - there's always someone looking for people willing to do things differently. Have you heard the phrase 'match your freak' recently? Well that's thing. People want to work with people who think like them, not who think like everyone else in their industry. Or look at this way - you might be casting a smaller net by not trying to appeal to everyone all of the time, but you'll catch better fish. Fish you can form better relationships with. I'm going to leave that metaphor there. I've always said that there's no such thing as a boring industry or client, just boring copy. Working with me, we can: - Poke holes in the dullness so that your personality shines through without ever losing sight of your professional bona fides - Go all out and rip up the rule book. It depends on what you're comfortable doing, but I will push you that bit further than you maybe think you should go - Inject some humour that is guaranteed to catch the eye. Tell the world who you and what you do clearly and on your own terms. - Bring your voice to all corners of your website. Headers, error text, CTAs, the lot (keeping accessibility in mind, of course) - Tell anyone who reads your site why they should work with YOU. Yes, you. Leave them in no doubt as to why you're better than all the other options, the ones sat in that corner looking and sounding the same. Be irresistible, be yourself, and you'll be successful. Mess about, reduce noise and outside influence to a minimum and always use control variables and observe. Here we have John Muller at the very end of 2022, talking about the effect of hidden text on a site. Something we were interested about all the way back in 2017 so run the experiment to find out.
