For all of my friends who are educators, what do you think of these initiatives to teach media literacy within schools? And, to ensure media literacy becomes part of a lifelong learning program? Take note in the end of the new legislation in California regarding media literacy in schools. #medialiteracy #worldeconomicforum

Women are still underrepresented, underpaid, and often discriminated against in the tech industry. Here are some takeaways on how the sector can achieve #genderparity, from the #WomeninTech breakfast session at #BoomiWorld in Denver earlier this week. On improvements needed: - Motherhood penalty is still very real. Companies need to offer more support for mothers returning to work such as flexible work options. -- Karen Dosanjh, CMO of OSI Digital - It always starts with leadership correcting unfairness in the organisation, such as salary discrimination. Allyship is another key ingredient. -- Kate Stables, head of tech at Fever-Tree - Use allies to be part of the voice for change for equity, and ensure people are accountable to the change. Data can help with the latter. -- Alison Biggan, CMO of Boomi - Keep bringing the topic of gender bias up to management level, and questioning discrimination when you see it. -- Nicki Brock, senior director of enterprise applications at KORE Wireless On imposter syndrome and getting that promotion: - Women tend to think they need to prove themselves before asking for a promotion. "How will it be possible, in the future, to trace back some of the claims that will be made by ChatGPT if the content is no longer alive?" via Nieman Journalism Lab Of all the frustrations with disappearing online content, I think LLMs not being able to cite "legit" sources is an unlikely one. They could surely archive everything they've scraped and make it available via a search portal, and probably will for the stuff they belatedly license. Some publishers will even thank them for it because they never learn! The article is a great read for anyone who's been writing online for more than 5 years, though, especially for noting the challenges facing "niche" sites that may be the only sources of coverage for some topics and/or individuals. When PCS shuttered, we lost so many articles, interviews, and user comments spotlighting POC comics and creators that no one else was really covering back then. I've preserved some of my longer articles on my own site (and the Wayback Machine captured a bit more), but easily 80% of everything we published there was lost forever (first in a botched update, then in the shuttering), diminishing or even erasing the impact some of those people and stories had from ~2005-2008. Own your own domain, back it up regularly, and save a copy of everything you write to a local hard drive. The cloud is just someone else's computer, and they can decide to turn it off without notice at any time. https://lnkd.in/ewpwWRkx
