If I haven't said it enough times already, as of 1st July Universal Analytics will be gone, along with all of your historical performance data! 😬 There are no signs of Google extending this deadline - 1st July is it! If you need to retain your historic data, I'd strongly suggest you export it sooner rather than later - there's only a few days remaining! Hindered by disparate unstructured data, a lack of customer level insight, basic CRM campaigns and a heavy reliance on manual best endeavours? Buying a new shiny martech tool is not the answer - it's no quick fix silver bullet!! 1. Can you optimise your current #martech? Is it a sub-optimal implementation, constrained by missing data, not integrated with other tools or the users simply aren't skilled enough in using it? We often see that companies under utilise the tools they already have. 2. Audit your #data for marketing's needs. Define the data points required in order to meet their analytical and campaign aspirations and establish the refresh rate for each data point to avoid latency issues. 3. Unify your data, structure it at customer level and enrich it. Remove the cottage industry of having to manually extract data from core systems and the risk of having lists flying around the business. Once you know what you need, create a unified data structure at customer level that meets the needs, wrap it in governance and use it populate your tools. 4. Undertake a deep analysis of customers in your existing base to understand key segments, behaviours and value (past, current and future). A deep understanding of customer dynamics is crucial before investing in tools meant to optimise those relationships. 5. Evaluate current #CRM processes and practices. Assess whether your current processes are optimised. Identify pain points and manual inefficiencies that are causing delays or errors. Streamlining current workflows is a good first step before adding new technology. 6. Define clear objectives. Ensure your CRM and marketing goals are well defined and aligned with the broader business strategy. What do you expect the new tool to achieve? More #personalisation, more #automation, more real-time triggered comms? 7. Review structure, people and invest in skills and training. A new tool will only be as good as the team using it. Build a culture of data-driven decision-making and campaign execution first. 8. Make sure you have your martech requirements articulated. The must haves vs the nice to haves. Get potential vendors to build demos around your key use cases (the ones that are core to the business case). So in summary, don't jump straight into buying a shiny new tool. First optimise your data, processes, teams, and ensure alignment across the business. Only when you’ve laid this groundwork will you be ready to invest in the right tool for the job.
