I asked Chat GPT what the best tools to learn in data in 2024 are, and this is what it said... 1. Apache Spark - because it's open source, efficient in data processing and supports various languages 2. SQL - because of how fundamental it is across data manipulation, querying, and database management 3. Python - because of it's many different use cases and libraries across data Do you agree with this top 3? The rest of this list was: Airflow, Snowflake, DBT, Google BigQuery, Kubernetes, MLflow, and data viz tools (non-specific) I'd probably reverse the order, and have SQL number one, and Python number two. I'm surprised it didn't tell me to learn Databricks though. 😂 I was also expecting to see ADF on the list. 🤔 What do you think? Refresh time! Good discussion with a potential client yesterday evening, his current supplier of dashboards for #netsuite can't get the refresh time they promised. He was then told it was because of his Power BI License. WRONG So just to clarify, if you are using #PowerBI a 5 minute refresh or faster is totally achievable if the reports are built correctly.

"How can I stand out when there are 200 applications?" 🙃 A conversation I am having with many data professionals at the moment. The harsh reality is it's extremely difficult in the current market to stand out, although it's still very possible to land your next gig! What you can do is: 💥 Keep your resume plain and simple with an easy-to-follow format, tailor to each role you apply to when necessary (i.e. highlighting relevant tech experience they mention) and don't shy away from highlighting all your achievements 💥 Follow up after you apply, connect in with relevant managers or talent acquisition partners and drop a message to say hello 💥 Keep track of where you apply to, you can revert back to that at the end of the week and follow up with all (a spreadsheet, notes on your phone - whatever works for you to keep track of who you applied with) The sad reality is, even top tier data professionals are missing out at application stage, getting lost in a mine field of resumes and not even hearing back... Going through 200-300 resumes for one role is insane 😅 *This is where Ralph Wiggum appears in your head and says "chuckles, I'm in danger" while your eye twitches* 😂😅 The amount of time and money lost in initial screening phase, to first and second rounds can take months & those who initially applied are probably off market by now 🤷‍♂️ In fact, processes are taking months, the average time to fill a permanent vacancy has increased from 3-4 weeks to 6-8 weeks 🔨 If projects are urgent, can you wait 12 weeks to have someone onboarded? An 8 week interview process, with a 4 week notice period on top more often than not will be more costly to your projects than using a market specialist 🤯 This is something to think about next time you go out to the data market to make your next hire - using a specialist data recruiter that can partner with your team can partner with your internal teams to reduce that time drastically and time wasted going through hundreds of applications 👨‍💻 #Data #DataEngineer #BusinessIntelligence #hiring #recruitment
