🚗 "Encouraging Growth in EV Technicians, But Skills Gap Remains" 🌱 The IMI's latest data shows 58,800 UK technicians are now EV-qualified, up to 24% of the workforce in 2024. Yet, a critical skills gap persists. Despite progress, a shortfall of 3,000 EV technicians by 2031 and potentially 16,000 by 2035 looms, especially with the 2030 ICE vehicle ban. Regional disparities add to the challenge—London and the South East lag behind while the East of England leads. The number of battery EVs sold in the UK in July rose by 18.8% on the figure a year ago, according to data published by SMMT yesterday. However, despite UK car sales growing year on year in every month for the last two years as the industry recovers from the slump in sales during the pandemic, a slowing global economy and higher interest rates have weighed on sales growth. Some manufacturers are worried they will miss EV targets set by the UK government. Under the zero emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate, 22% of each carmaker’s sales must be pure battery cars in 2024, rising to 80% by 2030. Labour has said it will reintroduce a plan to ban new petrol and diesel car sales in 2030, after the former prime minister delayed it until 2035. https://lnkd.in/eVrzq47B #automotive #EVs #manufacturing

The UK's electric vehicle (EV) market continues to expand as the latest figures released from Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show a 16.9% market share for April and a 10.7% increase on the same period in 2023. With the news that over 6,000 chargers have so far been installed this year, the EV continues it's trend in catching up with petrol-fuelled cars. #electricvehicles #evchargers #evcharging

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have released UK registration figures for cars and in April - 22,717 #electricvehicles joined the ranks (107k for the year so far). I'm predicting just shy of 400k for the year, with the necessary discounting of #EVs from the OEMs to avoid £15k fines for non-compliance with the #ZEVMandate starting to see an impact as the year progresses. In other news, Zapmap have confirmed that there are now over 60,000 public chargepoints in the UK - each (that's working!) helping to reduce the #rangeanxiety barrier. #moorhousesustainability #sustainability

New data from The AA reveals the percentage of #EV breakdowns caused by running out of power reached a record low last month💡 Just 1.4% of the EV callouts they received in June were due to batteries having limited or no charge. Rosario Surace, EV Charging Specialist at Drax Electric Vehicles ⚡, comments:    "This is a fantastic step towards instilling the confidence needed for people and businesses to switch to electric, as well as debunking one of the biggest myths about EVs: EVs can't go the distance.    As we can see from this new figure, EV breakdowns due to limited or no charge on the batteries is becoming fewer and far between. And this is because, like with any new advancement, the technology is getting better and better.   I've—along with my co-driver Naomi Jane Nye, Head of Sales at Drax Electric Vehicles ⚡—have recently taken part in the EV Rally 2024, where we witnessed first hand the real capabilities of these cars and vehicles. And having travelled 1400 miles over 5 days, it's safe to say, EVs have what it takes to go the distance.   I'm looking forward to seeing this percentage decrease as we progress over the next couple of years." 🚚 New LCV market growth reported, but EVs see major decline 🚚 The UK new LCV market returned to growth in August, up by 1.7% year-on-year following two months of decline. However, there was a big drop in electric LCV registrations, which were down by 30.3% year-on-year. The Ford Transit Custom topped the August sales chart, ahead of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
