To support cutting-edge bioscience research and innovation, Professor Anne Ferguson-Smith, Executive Chair for BBSRC, has launched a new major bioscience consultation. This marks a crucial step in reviewing the Forward Look for UK Bioscience which acts as a guiding framework, shaping BBSRC's actions and investments. As part of the launch, Professor Ferguson-Smith is calling on members of the UK bioscience ecosystem to contribute to its success. She said: "I am thrilled to launch this consultation, which puts the UK’s vibrant bioscience community at its very heart. "BBSRC’s future priorities must reflect the needs and aspirations of the community it serves. We will achieve this by drawing upon our collective experiences and insights to create a shared roadmap for the future. "Our shared roadmap will unleash scientific discovery and innovation to address some of the most complex challenges facing global society, driving economic growth and fundamentally improving the quality of life for all." In the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology first #lifesciences related announcement, the UK Biobank, the world’s leading biomedical database, has been given a major boost. Amazon Web Services (AWS) will provide £8 million worth of cloud computing storage access, unlocking an additional £8 million in match-funding from the #ukgovernment. This combined £16 million investment will support vital research aimed at developing new #diagnostics and treatments for diseases such as #Parkinson’s, #dementia, and #cancer. AWS's contribution will equip UK Biobank with the necessary cloud infrastructure to securely store and manage its extensive health #data. This initiative is part of a broader effort, which began with a public-philanthropic consortium formed last year, to secure UK Biobank’s future. With today’s announcement, nearly £50 million has been raised. UK Biobank’s unparalleled dataset, consisting of genetic, health, and lifestyle information from 500,000 UK volunteers, is a crucial resource for researchers worldwide. This support from AWS and the government ensures that UK Biobank remains at the forefront of medical research, driving #innovation which will transform healthcare and improve lives both domestically and globally.

Earlier this month, Dr Benedict CS Cross, CTO, attended the first UK Proteostasis Conference at The Babraham Institute.    Ben presented on the application of our new GlueSEEKER platform for the systematic discovery of molecular glues in his talk, “Induced control of protein degradation”, as well as providing an update on our internal pipeline of novel bivalent degraders.    Molecular glues are an important new class of small molecule drug that exhibit a therapeutic effect by inducing close proximity between target and effector proteins, and exploit the cell’s proteostasis mechanism to cause target degradation, with great potential in the treatment of diseases such as cancer.   To find out more about our GlueSEEKER platform and how we are enabling the development of novel degrader therapeutics, visit our website: https://rb.gy/k4qovm   #MolecularGlues #TPD #DrugDiscovery
