By accident, I re-watched a couple of episodes of Silicon Valley over the weekend. It premiered in 2014 and is still a perfect introduction to the crazy world of startups and venture capital. Anyone in the ecosystem can recognize themselves and/or all the weird characters occupying this space. Watching all six seasons should be mandatory before starting or investing in a tech company. It’s mind-boggling how the creators managed to showcase futuristic elements like self-driving cars, AI, robots, and VR headsets, even before they became mainstream topics of discussion. For anyone building AI agents or reasoning systems, you need to check out the latest release from Logikon AI Logikon AI has partnered with Hugging Face and Allen Institute for AI (AI2) to create the first Open Chain-of-Thought (CoT) leaderboard. CoT is crucial for complex problem-solving and decision making tasks in AI. However, until now, there hasn't been a standardised way to evaluate and improve reasoning models. This leaderboard changes that, providing transparency and fostering competition that drives forward innovation in AI reasoning. Normally I don't pay much attention to different ranking articles about startups to watch, etc. When we invest, we need to have a conviction about startups that we want to invest in before any article mentions them. However, I agree with Sifted about Ki Hydrogen. In my opinion it's an exceptional company with great team and very promising technology (hydrogen production using biomass electrolysis while needing up to 70% less energy). The hydrogen economy is already at around $200 billion, with over $500 billion of estimated infrastructure investments. The key misconception is that hydrogen is mostly used in the transportation industry. In fact, that is less than 10% of the hydrogen market. Congrats to Koji Muto, Michael Stanton and Carl Banbury, PhD for their steady progress! We are honoured to be working with you on bringing the world hydrogen made from waste at scale.

Paul Graham's latest invented phrase "Founder Mode" has recently created quite a lot of buzz. PG is generally great at writing about topics which everybody thinks of but has not quite articulated. Founder Mode being one of them. While a lot of people are resonating with "Founder Mode", many also feel that its quite vague. How exactly should one implement it in their organisations? PG warns against being "gaslit" into hiring execs from large companies and let them run like managers. I believe 80% of your culture is defined by your hiring. It's of no use hiring people who prefer "Manager mode" and expect them to work in "Founder Mode". What might feel like "micromanagement" to some folks might be an enabler to do great work for others. They key is to hire people with founder mentality if making your company run in "Founder Mode" is the goal. But how do you figure out who has "founder mentality" and who doesn't? One way is to hire ex-founders themselves. I had recently compiled a list of 30 such people for Weekday's newsletter (fyi, Weekday is a hiring platform that has almost 80% of India's tech talent on it).
