Eye opening stats which I must admit, I did not expect! Currently experiencing a challenging situation with my HMRC account, which I believe presents an opportunity for HMRC to improve its customer service and system efficiency. In June 2024, I discovered an issue with my account related to the use of a temporary NI number when I first started working in the UK. This has led to multiple NI numbers being associated with my account, requiring a system fix. The resolution of this issue has been delayed multiple times, with the current estimate being early October 2024. This delay is concerning as it is very close to the deadline for my tax return submission on 25th October 2024. Furthermore, I will be away from the UK from end of August to end of October, which adds another layer of complexity to the situation. I believe this situation highlights a few areas where HMRC could potentially improve: Communication: Regular updates on the progress of resolving issues would greatly reduce customer anxiety and uncertainty. Flexibility: Considering unique circumstances, such as being away from the UK, when setting deadlines could prevent unnecessary stress for customers. Efficiency: Streamlining processes to resolve issues more quickly would enhance customer satisfaction and trust in HMRC. Given some of the random stuff people post here on LinkedIn, I thought I’d join in with the randomness and post something that will only be of interest to a small group of people (or absolutely no one). It may also help break the quite frankly irritating monotony that I am certain I can’t be the only one who is feeling, of posts from the sudden spate of economic experts springing up all around us, expressing “outrage” and requesting “Kier’s ear” to tell him how raging the collective “we” are about the upcoming budget… Anyway, on a lighter note, I’ve been travelling a bit with work recently. One of my favourite parts of travelling is getting my noise cancelling headphones charged up and listening to music 🎶 I know you haven’t asked, but I’ll pretend you want to know what I’m listening to. Well, for the past couple years, I’ve been getting to grips (again) with Genesis, and the album I keep going back to, which I’d highly recommend as a travel album, is ‘Abacab’ (1981) - a great body of work, do give it a listen. ‘Foxtrot’ (1972), ‘Duke’ (1980), ‘Selling England by the Pound’ (1973), and if you’re feeling a bit more poppy, ‘Invisible Touch’ (1986), are also all very good! Anyway, hope this intermission served you well.
