I found the systems out in place to support/protect were corrupt supported the perpetrators, midwifery trust management. The union proved to be complicit with midwifery managers on numerous occasions.
Along with another woman, we set up this Facebook page to support other members who have or are being bullied. Currently we are in the process of formulating a document/report which includes hundreds of stories from midwives students about why they leave. We will use this report to inform heads of midwifery education departments. The document is being created in 4 sub sections with a foreword from an eminent professor. A Maternity Health and Wellbeing Taskforce has already been set up by the English Chief Midwife. We are involving Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.
This report has also gives an army of victims the opportunity to have their say and is a caution to the many bullies who think their victims will just disappear. They haven’t.

Facebook page which promotes evidence base and I turned choice around optimal cord clamping “wait for white”
Immediate clamping over sister for decades and research shows this causes harm. Particularly anaemia in term babies which can lead to learning snd behavioural difficulties. In premature babies the research shows that intact cord resuscitation can save 150000 babies around the globe. We got it wrong but change has proved hard to implement.

This book provides a comprehensive exploration of decision-making for midwives irrespective of where in the world they practice or in which model of care. The first part critically reviews decision-making theories, including the Enhancing Decision-making Assessment in Midwifery (EDAM) tool, and their relevance to midwifery. It explores the links between midwifery governance, including professional regulation and the law, risk and safety and decision-making as well as how critical thinking and reflection are essential elements of decision-making. It then goes on to present a number of diverse case studies, demonstrating how they interrelate to and impact upon optimal midwifery decision-making. Each chapter presents examples that show how the theory translates into practice and includes activities to reinforce learning points.

Bringing together a diverse range of contributors, this volume will be essential reading for midwifery students, practicing midwives and midwifery academics.

Research has shown that immediate cord clamping deprives the baby of up to 40% of its intended blood volume. Research shows that leaving the cord intact leads to a weight gain of up to 210g in the five minutes following birth.

  • Umbilical cord clamping is not a physiological necessity

    BJM Vol. 18, No. 4. pp 269

At best the cord clamp or any method of occluding the umbilical cord could be considered as an augmentation of the physiological process which occurs at birth. In utero the placenta provides the supply of oxygen and after birth the oxygen supply is by the newborn infant’s lungs. Transition from the placenta to the lungs must take place quickly but not instantly.

Nominated by a member of the public for voluntarily extending my role by vigorously campaigning for evidence based care with regards to Delaying Cord Clamping in all births. Immediate Cord Clamping is an intervention which is unnecessary in the majority of births and is carried out at most births with no evidence to support this action. Evidence has shown that Iron deficiency anaemia is more common in immediate cord clamping and this can impact on behaviour and development. Growing evidence on this matter strongly indicates that this very common routine practice (which is recommended by NICE) causes harm to newborn's development.

    Medical Futures Innovation

As a member of a team involved of Consultant Obstetricians, Paediatricians and Neonatologists, we developed a mini resuscitaire which could enable a babies cord to remain intact whilst resuscitation was being performed. Evidence has shown that babies, particularly premature infants and babies requiring resuscitation could benefit from the umbilical cord remaining intact.
The Lifestart trolley is now in production.
