Alison Gowman CBE

I chaired the Museum's Audit and Risk Management Committee for three years to 2020 and 2022-2023. I chair the Remuneration Committee and am lead member for sustainability, chairing the Sustainability Working Group. I am the Museum's representative on the Museum of London Archaeology - see details below.

I chaired of the Audit and Governance Committee to 2020 and am also the lead member on Equality Diversity and Inclusion.

I am the Chair of the Estate Committee which has an investment property portfolio largely located in the City and Central London with a value of approximately £130 million. This Committee oversaw the recent move of the Trust to its new offices and is involved in the refurbishment of the previous office as well as many other property transactions.
I also sit on the Effra Grants Committee.

I Chaired the Professional Standards and Integrity (Police) Subcommitee that reviews the complaints and disciplinary matters of the City of London Police as well as overseeing the adoption and use of the Police Code of Ethics.
I was the lead member regarding roads policing and road danger. This involved reviewing and scrutinising the work of the City Police and ensuring full liaison with the City Corporation and other relevant bodies.

I Chaired the Development Committee to raise funds to the Discover Greenwich experience. This successfully raised £6 million and the centre opened on time and on budget.
I also sat on the Finance Committee.

The Active City Network is a group of businesses in the City of London who together champion active travel in walking and cycling in the City. This is coupled with the need to keep road safety as a guiding principle and encouraging active travel to reduce air pollutants and create healthier commuters and employees. We publish an annual Best Practice Guide and hold numerous seminars and workshops on this topic.

The London Road Safety Council www.londonroadsafetycouncil.org.uk promotes good practice in road safety across Greater London. I represent the City of London on this Council. I Chaired the Council from 2021-2024. I was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for my involvement in 2017.

I joined as a Liveryman in 2008. I Chaired the Public Relations Committee and in 2017 became Renter Warden, in 2018 Upper Warden and on 16 July 2019 became Master. I chaired the Nominations Panel from 2020-2022. I am now a Past Master.

I served as Master from November 2013 - 14. I Chaired the Finance Committee; Charitable Trust Board and Appointments Committee.

Morden College provides independent living accommodation in heritage and modern buildings alongside a residential care home. I sit on the Property Committee which manages a large portfolio of commercial and residential properties, mainly in Blackheath and Greenwich

The Chartered Surveyors' Livery Company are closely aligned to their profession and also admit members who have related property experience, where I qualify as a commercial real estate lawyer.

I founded Livery Climate Action Group to promote the need for Livery Companies to address climate change and work towards carbon net zero in the City of London. With the vast majority of the 111 Livery Companies involved this has growing momentum to create a better and more sustainable City and to act as advocates in the various Livery crafts, trades and professions acting as beacons of good practice and engagement.
