This is the second report in the series and it looks at the different support needs of the voluntary sector in Devon.

This report shows how the services provided by DeVA and its partners support organisations and groups across Devon and how, depending on the size of the group, that support varies. This report builds on our first report the Third Sector Overview of Devon (2014) and shows that:

There are significant differences between the support needs of the smaller groups compared to the larger organisations.
The top support needs of micro and small organisations are Funding Advice, Skills Development, and Governance Advice. The top support needs of larger organisations are Skills Development, Information Advice Guidance and Volunteer Support.
The majority (65%) of the DeVA support given to organisations between April 2013 and March 2014 was given to smaller groups with an income of below £100,000 (micro and small)
Typically, these groups work in small geographical areas and have fewer volunteer hours per week and few, if any, paid staff.

Support provided by DeVA is very important in enabling smaller organisations to continue to exist and to continue to contribute to their communities’ resilience. DeVA helps organisations to access the tools needed to gain funding to allow them to continue to provide their services in their communities. We note that smaller organisations tend to be more grant reliant compared to the larger organisations which are more likely to participate in procurement and contract processes.
