Why do so many design fairs feel the same? Our founder Sabine Zetteler spoke with the wonderful Ben Olsen about the future of fairs for a feature in ROADBOOK 👏 “Festivals promise the cutting edge of design today. They aim to represent the best humanity has to offer with relation to design, in terms of whom it’s for, what it’s made of, and how it’s better than what came before. In the process, they also help to position the host city as a place of forward-thinking cultural significance on the global stage.” Yet too much of the current design scene “seems to revolve around hanging around together with an Aperol”, she continues. “It can feel a bit like a members’ club, where the interior design, the people and the music are the same wherever you go.” They could be, and should be, so much more. What do you think? Read the full piece in ROADBOOK 👇 #design #designfairs https://lnkd.in/ehw28X9H

Thank you to Daniel Pope for such a wonderfully generous shout out of Sabine Zetteler ❤️️❤️️❤️️ “I’ve had the most incredible mentor in Sabine Zetteler who saw something in me and by spotlighting my work it provided a huge boost to carry on. She reminds me that people and communities have an incredible capacity to bring you up, and I try to do the same by encouraging others into the sustainability space.” Read the full interview with Dan in EastLondonLines, where they speak about working to tackle housing issues, researching clay and how to deal with anxieties about the climate crisis. https://lnkd.in/eVUwfTMe

We’ve instructed our very own Chris Hayes to create this social media post about his Substack newsletter; he’s embarrassed, but would be grateful if you’d check it out ✍️ The most recent essay is about wasting time ⏰🗑️⏳ and he talks about the time Kenneth Goldsmith taught a class about wasting time on the internet, a painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, the overlap between Kevin Smith and Richard Linklater, Kyle Chayka’s FILTERWORLD, money, rent and a lot more. It could use an edit tbh 📝😳 Check it out: https://lnkd.in/eWRTqNys

The next Venice Biennale will open this month with the theme ‘Foreigners Everywhere’ – but how welcoming will it be to people entering Europe? As a recent article by Marta Foresti and Otho Mantegazza of LAGO-COLLECTIVE argues for The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), people trying to get a visa into Europe face insurmountable barriers – and this is doing us more harm than good. 📊 And the system itself is deeply unjust: as the data shows that applicants from countries with a lower GDP per capita faced higher rejection rates. https://lnkd.in/emSRrMpQ

YES 🔥 🔥 🔥 'Daniela Tovar believes more funders should look beyond the CV of an applicant, which can only describe what they have already done, and consider the potentials of a project.'

There’s a lot written about how to apply for funding. But what happens when you’ve received the grant? 🤔 We spoke with some of our grantees to ask about their experience, and you can read their insightful comments in our latest blog! From advice about applying for your first grant to dealing with burnout, reflections on what dedicating time to making art without distraction has meant for their practice, it’s a wide-ranging—and honest—discussion about overcoming challenges faced by creatives. 🎨💡 Shout out to Elleanna Chapman, Oroko Radio, Angelo Ormskerk, Daniela Tovar, Legal Aliens Theatre, Espacio Común and Ankie van Kasteren. 🙌 Read it here 👇 https://lnkd.in/e-f64w-a

Representation is more than box ticking exercise. It’s a statement about who you imagine your audience and community is, and allows an organisation to show who they are by the choices they make. So when the London LGBTQ Community Centre Centre announced they were working with Adam Nathaniel Furman for a new design project, we thought this was a perfect example that many others should learn from. Adam Nathaniel Furman is a designer renowned for their creative explorations of queer identity and history. Their work delves deep into the history of queer design, drawing connections between queer resistance and decorative design traditions. Following the launch of the London LGBTQ Centre’s first physical space, the Centre wanted to release a t-shirt to help spread the word, build a deeper sense of community with their audience and, of course, raise some much-needed funds. Printed with sustainable inks on 100% cotton, the t-shirts feature an eye-popping LGBTQ rainbow with a strident triangle pattern, a now iconic symbol of queer resistance, and the playful pink and blue logo of the Centre is displayed on the arm. The resulting t-shirt invites people to support the Centre in a fun, stylish way – while also opening conversations around queer identity between the past and present. We love it. 📸 by Vi Dimitrova. #queercommunity

🌍 March is B Lab UK Month! 🌱 As a company that talks a lot about the importance of sustainability and positive social impact, we really love what the B Corp community represents – a third party system that sets strict ethical standards for businesses to meet, and verifies they do so through rigorous verification process 🌟 Being a B Corp means putting social impact ahead of short-term profits, and we're delighted to say many of our clients are B Corp certified, like the good people at G . F Smith. Zetteler is also on a journey to becoming B Corp (more on that later 😉). Certification, B Corp or otherwise, isn’t a panacea of course. Where possible, businesses and organisations should go far beyond it. But a third party certification gives confidence to everyone that you’re actually doing what you’re claiming. So this March, let’s give a round of applause for businesses that go beyond profit and prioritise purpose! 👏 https://bcorporation.uk
