Zag takes a look at four new form factors in the sustainable last mile delivery space that Engineering Design Lab has helped develop. These are: ▶ The utility scooter that can haul a bigger payload than an e-bike or e-moped, but is more compact and agile than an e-cargo bike or van ▶ The cookee, a class 2 e-moped optimised for deliveries ▶ The Semi-Trike which will have one of the largest cargo capacities on the market with a volume of 200 cubic feet ▶ The Dispatch, a 2,000 litre delivery vehicle designed for the road as cities transition to car-light and low-speed environments “Any micromobility device absolutely must have cargo capacity if it is to offer a viable alternative to cars,” EDL’s Founder Tomek Bartczak, P.Eng tells Zag Daily…we want to be at the forefront of innovation within last mile sustainable delivery technology.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/esdg4Qhp

Mobility technology company Mayten acquires shared mobility aggregator Cogo to expand its software offering for shared mobility. The acquisition forms part of Mayten’s MobilityFabric brand which includes software solutions that help shared mobility companies focus on their core operations and reduce R&D expenses. “Though shared mobility boomed in the last years fuelled by VC funding, barrier to entry for small operators remains high,” Mayten Founder and CEO Prabin Joel Jones told Zag Daily. “We plan to expand upon Cogo's current offerings to enable small operators with a few scooters or e-bikes to get started with their shared mobility project at a low cost.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/e-baeb5m

49% of UK consumers cannot afford to buy a bike outright, according to new research from Blackhawk Network (BHN) Europe. A survey of 2,000 respondents found that 25% of those who can’t afford to buy a bike upfront would need to save for six months, and 67% said they’d be more likely to cycle if they had support from their employer. “In helping people afford bikes, salary sacrifice schemes have proven to be a powerful tool in achieving this. By enabling employees to purchase bikes and accessories through pre-tax salary deductions, these schemes offer substantial financial benefits,” Adrian Warren CGMA 🚴♂️🏢💳💸, Senior Director of Product Management at BHN Extras, told Zag Daily. LYNEports has won the startup prize at the Farnborough Airshow for its vertiport planning solution which lets users create a digital twin of their eVTOL network. “The question we have to ask is where and how do we land these new eVTOLs in a safe and sustainable way? That’s how the idea of LYNEports came about. We want to merge the airspace and groundspace under one umbrella for the first time through a digital twin that has all the data needed to find and identify potential vertiport sites,” founder Rasha Alshami told Zag Daily after winning the prize. The other five finalists were Eddytec, Estuaire, Flux Aviation, OneGrab, and Sora Aviation. Read about them here: https://lnkd.in/erh_5TCP

This week Zag Daily launched Zag Air, a new editorial section dedicated to the business of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). With it comes Radar, a new series of interviews that will track the leading AAM players on their journey to reshape the sustainable air industry. Kicking the series off is Duncan Walker - CEO of Skyports Infrastructure which is developing a vertiport and eVTOL network in Dubai set to be the world’s first from 2026. Duncan says the Middle East takes pole position as the first ‘mover market’ for eVTOL because of government coordination and a clear vision for advanced air mobility. “The region is solution-focused which can mean rapid progress for emerging technology, and its stakeholders are more forward-thinking than in the UK for example where there are typically loads of consultations and people saying things can’t be done. In the Middle East, there’s a senior level of political buy-in and an understanding that there must be a way to make it happen, so how can we make it happen? It’s a totally different mindset.” #AAM #UAM #eVTOL #drone #AdvancedAirMobility #ZagAir #FlightPlan Read more: https://lnkd.in/eyvquaxg

The first six months of the ULEZ expansion saved 424 tonnes of nitrogen oxides in outer London, according to new data from London City Hall. This is equivalent to removing 200,000 cars from the road for one year. “The toxic air emergency is a public health crisis and action needs to be taken,” Hirra K., Co-Director of climate charity Possible, told Zag Daily. “Contrary to what anti-ULEZ activists were saying last year, these findings show that the overall impact of ULEZ has been hugely positive. We need to step away from the culture war and get on with cleaning up our air by focusing on the facts: these policies work.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eCRAmbqH
