The first six months of the ULEZ expansion saved 424 tonnes of nitrogen oxides in outer London, according to new data from London City Hall. This is equivalent to removing 200,000 cars from the road for one year. “The toxic air emergency is a public health crisis and action needs to be taken,” Hirra K., Co-Director of climate charity Possible, told Zag Daily. “Contrary to what anti-ULEZ activists were saying last year, these findings show that the overall impact of ULEZ has been hugely positive. We need to step away from the culture war and get on with cleaning up our air by focusing on the facts: these policies work.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eCRAmbqH

Cowboy has upgraded its AdaptivePower technology to let riders tackle 50% steeper hills with no extra effort. AdaptivePower 2.0 makes 20 calculations per second and regulates the bike’s power based on hills, weight and wind to save the rider’s energy and time. “AdaptivePower technology ensures that as soon as the rider encounters a slope or strong headwind, the motor provides extra power precisely when needed to maintain speed, making even steep inclines feel flat,” Cowboy Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer Tanguy Goretti told Zag Daily. The UK government is to invest £103 million in sustainable air travel. Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds formally launched the strategy at the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow today. Five R&D projects are being funded with GKN Aerospace, Queen's University Belfast, Rolls-Royce, Short Brothers and ZeroAvia to help pioneer innovations including zero emission hydrogen-powered flight, new sustainable propulsion systems and turbine technologies. John Goudie, CEO of SLiNK-TECH which designed the UK’s first permanent vertiport, commented: “Electric aviation has seemed farfetched, but with advancements in technology it is becoming feasible to operate some missions with battery or hydrogen powered aircraft. We hope this funding fosters innovation across established aerospace firms and UK SME’s, and fly us faster towards “Destination Zero” with zero-carbon emission aircraft.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eBq6nDCE

The ‘Borough Safer Streets’ fund will be awarded to schemes between £0.5 million and £5 million which support the Mayor’s Vision Zero goal of eliminating deaths and serious injuries from London’s transport network. “To improve the safety of those using greener means of transport such as walking and cycling, the focus must be on removing conflict,” Jamie Hassall, Executive Director of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) told Zag Daily. “Therefore, those schemes that have new or improved cycleways and footpaths should be high on the list.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/dew6jPcq

Moose CEO Sam McCarthy tells Zag Daily about their new online marketplace for second-hand bikes with a ‘like new’ purchase process . Similar to second-hand clothing marketplace Vinted, Moose takes the risk off of the buyer and seller by acting as an intermediary between the parties and holding the money in an escrow account until the transaction is complete. Soon Moose will launch its three-month warranty option for added protection. “This marketplace is really exciting because it lets people access these products in a safe manner. They can reap the benefits of micromobility at an affordable price while enjoying those protections.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eHsaWywe
