Today, I had the honour of representing York and North Yorkshire at 10 Downing Street. Discussion was focused on growing our economies, boosting incomes, building new homes, and improving local transport, key areas where Mayors can make a significant difference for their regions. Affordable housing and transport connectivity are priorities for York and North Yorkshire and I look forward to working with partners locally, with Mayors and with Government to ensure that the needs of York and North Yorkshire are met on these key issues. York and North Yorkshire is distinct from many mayoral areas, with a unique rural, coastal and urban setting we can bring forward new solutions to UK government that can tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges, of food insecurity and sustainable energy generation. We can show how rural economies can make a unique and significant contribution to green growth. Our national contribution doesn’t stop there. It was a pleasure to travel with Transport for London on an Alexander Dennis electric bus made in Scarborough. Lots of opportunities for York and North Yorkshire to build on. Exciting times ahead.
