At #ClimateWeekNYC, the International Aluminium Institute gathered industry leaders to tackle one of the biggest challenges of our time—decarbonising aluminium production. In the race against climate change, aluminium is showing the impact a single industry can have - successfully decoupling emissions from growth. Evidently, significant positive change is underway, but how can this infinitely recyclable material truly support a low-carbon world? Read more about the discussion and the aluminium industry’s joint efforts to transform the sector for a net-zero future. https://lnkd.in/euTHK97n A huge thank you to all our speakers: María Alegre, Global Stakeholder Relations Director, Ball Corporation; Marlen Bertram, Director, International Aluminium Institute; Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA); Leandro Faria, Chief Sustainability Officer, CBA | Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio; Gunnar Guethenke, Head of Procurement and Supplier Quality, Mercedes-Benz AG; Eivind Kallevik, Chief Executive Officer, Norsk Hydro; Pierre Labat, Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer, Novelis; John M. Xynteo empowers leaders to reinvent growth by transforming their businesses and wider systems.
About us
Xynteo is a unique organisation of exceptional people brought together with the purpose of reinventing growth. We help businesses tackle global societal and environmental challenges that are too big, too expensive, and too complex to tackle alone. We believe that business is a force for good when leaders think long term, work with, not against nature, and use their influence and resources for the many, not the few. For us, this is good growth. We work with some of the world’s largest businesses, helping leaders and their organisations in three ways. To shape cultures and organisations to think and act differently; to create innovative, regenerative business models to compete and grow in new ways; and to embrace radical cross-sector, cross-border collaboration to tackle system challenges.

Last week, the UK Labour government's first budget showcased a strong commitment to a greener future. However, given recent projections indicating a potential 3-degree rise in global temperatures, the budget falls short of what is needed. While the Chancellor announced promising investments in energy, industry, transport, and hydrogen – a more ambitious approach is crucial for the UK to fully capitalise on the opportunities presented by a sustainability-driven growth economy, writes Amy Marshall, Managing Director, Xynteo. The manufacturing sector in India generates significant industrial waste, with a large portion still ending up in landfills rather than being recycled or reused. This isn’t just an environmental crisis – it represents billions in lost economic value. From heavy industries to electronics manufacturing, valuable materials that could be recaptured and reused are instead being lost to waste. In fact, the environmental impact extends beyond waste. The linear manufacturing model contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, and resource depletion. As regulations tighten and consumers become more environmentally conscious, manufacturers who cling to traditional models risk both their reputation and their bottom line, writes Vipul Kumar, Senior Partner at Xynteo, in The Volt Post. We are thrilled to announce that Xynteo's #BuildAhead coalition is joining forces with GCCA India - Global Cement and Concrete Association, India to accelerate the decarbonisation of India's construction sector. This landmark partnership will focus on developing crucial green taxonomy and emission thresholds for cement and concrete - a critical step towards enabling sustainable construction practices across India. As our nation continues its rapid urbanisation journey, the need for low-carbon building materials has never been more pressing. Through this two-year collaboration, we're combining GCCA India's deep industry expertise (representing 80% of India's cement production capacity) with Build Ahead's cross-sector coalition of forward-thinking companies to shape policy frameworks that will drive the adoption of sustainable construction materials. Looking ahead, we'll be working closely with GCCA India on multiple fronts - from engaging with government bodies on energy transition policies to sharing research findings for developing industry narratives around low-carbon materials. We're also exploring demonstration projects that will showcase sustainable construction practices in action. This collaboration marks another significant milestone in our mission to help businesses embrace regenerative growth models. Together with our coalition partners - JLL, Godrej Construction, Lodha , JSW Cement, SED Fund, Saint-Gobain and UltraTech Cement - we're taking concrete steps towards supporting India's net-zero emissions pledge.
