World Travel Market (WTM) London reposted this
📍 Santa Isabel School 🌍 Nicaragua 🔍 At the remote Santa Isabel school, work is progressing quickly to provide the students and staff with latrines and handwashing stations! Prior to the project students had to walk 700 metres to access sanitation facilities, a task which they are now free from, as construction is finished. All that remains is to provide health and hygiene training for the students to ensure that the benefits are felt at San Isabel for the foreseeable future. 🙏 A huge thanks to our Founding Partner World Travel Market (WTM) London, who funded this project with donations from the 2023 edition of World Travel Market London.

#WTMLDN is constantly looking ahead to the #traveltrends of tomorrow . Tell us what you want to learn about 👇 so we can build a world-class conference programme for 2024 and beyond. Do you oppose or support destinations introducing tourism taxes? 🌍 To deal with a continued surge in global tourism, many destinations are introducing tourist taxes to manage the impact of rising visitor numbers and preserve their unique environments. But what does this mean for the travel and tourism industry? 🤔 New Zealand tripled its tourist tax to 100 NZD ($61.82) to protect its stunning natural landscapes. 🏞️ and Iceland has reinstated and doubled its hotel tax to 600 ISK ($4.32) per night, and introduced a 1,000 ISK charge for cruise ships. (Source: Washington Post) 🌞 Barcelona increased the tourist lodging tax to €4 (about $4.30) per person per night, applicable for the first seven consecutive days. (Source: Thrillist)
