🌼Last week, several of our team members were delighted to be among the first visitors to the newly opened Natural History Museum gardens, sponsored by Workman LLP. 🌳As part of its #UrbanNatureProject, the Museum has completed the transformation of its five-acre site to achieve an accessible, free-to-visit green space in the heart of London, where visitors can explore, rest, and connect with nature. 🦕It was a treat to meet Fern, the stunning brand-new bronze cast of the Museum’s much-loved Diplodocus, supported by Kusuma Trust UK, and to wander round the five-acre space taking in the two outdoor living galleries: the Nature Discovery Garden, supported by the Cadogan Charity, and the Evolution Garden. ♻Our #ESG specialists were particularly interested in the project’s ambitious sustainability construction credentials, including a diesel-free site, no waste sent to landfill, and rainwater harvesting for the plants. 🐸As part of the redevelopment, the Museum’s Wildlife Garden was extended to double the area of native habitats within the grounds, while the pond area was increased by 60%, to better support the animal- and plant-life diversity. 🦋Last week’s Workman visitors to the gardens were: Vicky Cotton | Matthew Pateman | James Hallworth MRICS | Helen Jost | Charles Whiteley | Amy Duffy | Hanife Kussan | Catherine Kaye | Joanna Reece MRICS | Mohamed Rizk. 🙏With thanks to the Natural History Museum for hosting us all – we’re sure that many more of our teams will make their way to the gardens over the summer, and beyond. 📣Find out more about the project here: https://bit.ly/468iN2X #BuildingBiodiversity #urbangreening #nature

Is #biodiversity the next frontier of real estate sustainability? Our Vicky Cotton, ESG Director, sat down with Bisnow's Mark Faithfull to discuss... From the need for new UK developments to meet planning requirements on delivering biodiversity net gains for their schemes, to a major voluntary push from institutional investors through the global Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), biodiversity has become a hot topic. “Inevitably there are trade-offs, but looking at the longer-term value of adding biodiversity, it’s a very effective way of improving an asset for occupiers, and we’re seeing the main drive currently coming from forward-thinking funds,” Vicky said. 🦕The Natural History Museum has today revealed its latest dinosaur resident - named Fern - as its newly transformed garden, sponsored by Workman LLP, opens to the public from Thursday 18th July. 🌼As part of its #UrbanNatureProject, the Museum has completed the transformation of its five-acre site to achieve an accessible, free-to-visit green space in the heart of #London, where visitors can explore, rest, and connect with nature. 🌴To mark the opening, a stunning brand-new bronze cast of the Museum’s much-loved Diplodocus was revealed today [16 July], standing proud within the gardens. Following much speculation, the new dino resident’s name *Fern* was unveiled by local school children. Fern is supported by Kusuma Trust UK. 🌳The five acres of green space wrapping around the Museum’s much-loved building have been transformed into two outdoor living galleries ripe for exploration: the Nature Discovery Garden, supported by the Cadogan Charity, and the Evolution Garden. The gardens will be one of the most intensively studied urban nature sites globally, as part of the Museum’s national biodiversity movement. 🐸Creating a sustainable design that works with the landscape and taking an ambitious approach to sustainable construction – from a diesel-free site and no waste sent to landfill to harvesting rainwater for the plants – has been at the heart of the redevelopment. The Museum’s Wildlife Garden was extended to double the area of native habitats within the grounds and the pond area has been increased by 60%, to better support the animal and plant life diversity. 🌍Visiting the gardens, our Vicky Cotton, ESG Director at Workman LLP, said: “We are delighted that the Natural History Museum has brought imagination and evolution to life, in this stunning example of urban biodiversity. ♻“We have been proud to support the Museum along this journey, which has delivered a sustainable design that chimes with its heritage landscape. The Museum’s ambitious yet sensitive approach to sustainable construction and commitment to conservation has been at the heart of the redevelopment. We are very much looking forward to seeing the garden come alive with plants and visitors this summer.” 👀Find out more here: https://bit.ly/3Y7lnUK #buildingbiodiversity #urbannature #naturalhistorymuseum

Ian addressed 220 Year 7 children at the school, answering their questions about his working day, what surveying entails, and what they might enjoy about the role. #LifeAtWorkman #youth #growth #careersinproperty #CRE

🏖Our #Bristol team took part in a Beach Clean at Weston-Super-Mare, where they spent the day clearing plastic waste from the much-loved beach, ready for the tourist season. 🌍Taking care of the environment around us – whether built or natural – is a huge element of what we do here at Workman LLP. So our Bristol team was delighted to join the recent Beach Clean at Weston-Super-Mare, around 40 mins drive from the city centre, as part of efforts by the firm’s Wellbeing team. 🚮Amanda Belgium, Senior Accounts Associate, who joined the day of volunteering, said: “The huge swathe of sandy beach may look clean at first glance, but on closer inspection, there is a large amount of plastic waste – mainly from food and drink items – that is just left laying around. Picking up the litter, especially plastic, helps prevent it from harming animals or entering the food chain.” ♻The day was organised by Visit Somerset and Cleaner Coastlines: Weston & North Somerset plastic-free campaign which encourages businesses like Workman to take part in beach-clean events, and also to rise to the challenge of banning avoidable, single-use plastic (such as bags, coffee cups and plastic drinks bottles) from use within their organisations. 📣Our David Wright, Senior Associate, was featured in this BBC Sounds Radio interview (from 53’50” to 58’30”) talking about the volunteering experience, and the rubbish he’d collected. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/eY-Z2Cry ☀Eight members of Workman’s Bristol team took part on the day: Amanda Belgium, David Wright, Thomas Short, Robert Davis, Florentina Andreescu, Aathira ., Alex Roberts, and Jennifer Riando. They joined a group of around 30 people taking part, who each collected around one bag of rubbish from the beach, before being rewarded with a well-deserved ice cream at the end of the day. https://bit.ly/4cT69Xw #ESG #BuildingWellbeing #recycle #
