About us
Capability in all its forms is distributed randomly across the population, but unfortunately, opportunities are not. That is why we are working until every young person has their chance to flourish. Our work, focused where it is needed the most, helps talented individuals to identify and nurture their capabilities, by providing information and inspiration about the possibilities for their education and careers, all free at the point of use, and directly helping schools with OFSTED and Gatsby interaction with employer targets. By connecting young people and business through our national network of partner companies and industry volunteers, we deliver programmes online and face-to-face within school and industry settings, transforming the lives of young people and the opportunities for business.

We focus our work where it can have the greatest impact, for good reason. The recent report by Education Policy Institute, has shown that young people from the most under-resourced backgrounds have an attainment gap of two years compared to their more advantaged peers by the age 16. These young people are just as, and possibly more, talented but circumstances beyond their control leave them more than three grades behind their peers. Empowering these young people to believe in themselves and their potential is essential. Our skills-based programmes offer career-boosting opportunities and foster critical skills including confidence, resilience, and a growth mindset. We are currently recruiting volunteers to deliver these inspiring sessions in schools across England and Wales. So, if you would like to part of an organisation helping all young people to know their options, to find their careers, then get in touch with our Head of Programme Claire McMaster, Roxie Ford (Wales), Evie Gretton (north of England) or Maariyah Mulla (south of England). https://lnkd.in/ejEmWtcu Rich-poor education gap grows for 16-year-olds in almost all of England | Education | The Guardian

We welcome the introduction of several bills today in the King's Speech, which are aiming to support young people in accessing opportunities to successful and sustained careers, and are keen to find out more details in the weeks ahead. 💡Children’s Wellbeing Bill, prioritising the safety, education, and overall wellbeing of young learners, it seems to be taking steps toward ensuring every child receives the support they need. 💡Quality teaching is essential for empowering young people to succeed in their careers, and we are pleased to see that funding for an additional 6,500 teachers is on its way. 💡The Skills England Bill and Apprenticeship Levy reforms, while we await further details, we’re encouraged by the focus on creating a skilled workforce and hope that this will directly support career opportunities for young people.

Tag a teacher for #WorldSkillsDay 👇 Today we join UNICEF UK in highlighting the importance of 'empowering young people with the skills they need to thrive in the 21st century'. At Working Options in Education we support young people to develop crucial employability skills such as listening, speaking, problem-solving, creativity, staying positive, aiming high, leadership, and teamwork all year round. Our programmes, accredited at Impact Level 3 by Skills Builder Partnership, provide tangible skills that prepare them for the world of work. And they’re completely FREE for schools to access. 100% of teachers we work with recommend us, so if you know a teacher, please, tag them below and we can share more information about how their students can benefit. #WorldSkillsDay #EmployabilitySkills #SkillsForLife

Did you know we're on TikTok (workingoptions)? 1.2 million young people do! In the last six months we've achieved: 4,821,542 views 288,943 engagements Not bad for an organisation who only started to implement their digital strategy last November ... so year on year our digital reach is up 4096%. And in the next six months … We're not planning on slowing down just because we've already reached our ambitious targets for the whole year. We're going to continue working with young people in focus groups, to make sure we're creating content around the topics that are relevant to them now, and with our supportive partners to bring insights from a wide background of industries and personal experiences. If you’d like to get involved, as an individual or as an organisation, DM our Marketing Manager, Susanna Plummer.

"What advice would you give to someone starting out in their career?". Here is former US President Barack Obama's answer ...
If you're procrastinating right now, listen to this 👇🏽 Former US President Barack Obama shares his answer to one of his most frequently asked questions: "What advice would you give to someone starting out in their career?" I listened to this and immediately came to share. The biggest mistake people make is waiting for the perfect moment. There will never be a perfect moment. Start now, learn, adapt, and grow along the way. Thoughts? Feelings? Share them all below. Inspired by Daniel Abrahams

Think you can inspire a room of 70 young people? It’s hard, but incredibly rewarding.

Captivating Young Minds: My First Architecture & Planning #IndustryInsight Who knew talking to 60 Year 7 students could be so exhilarating? My first Industry Insight at Risca Community Comprehensive School in Newport was a whirlwind of energy, creativity, and pure fun! A big thank you to Aimee Vickery and Roxie Ford from Working Options in Education for this incredible opportunity. Walking into a room filled with 60 eager faces was a tad intimidating at first (hey, it was my first rodeo!), but their enthusiasm was infectious, and I soon found myself diving headfirst into my presentation. Explaining architecture and planning can be tricky, but I had a secret weapon: #funactivities! We played "Real or Fake Building?" explored favorite spots in Newport, and finally, the grand finale - a chance to #redesign their very own school! Let me tell you, their imaginations soared! From a school dedicated solely to sports (priorities, right?) to a food court paradise (we all bonded over our love of food!), the ideas were a delightful mix of bizarre and brilliant. Glass domes for good lighting and slides replaced boring stairs (who enjoys stairs?), while fountains, subject-themed blocks, and even a racing track (they seemed quite serious!) made an appearance. The classroom quickly turned into an Architect's office. Listening to their incredible visions and ideas, I couldn't help but think – the future of architecture and planning is in fantastic hands! This experience not only inspired these young minds, but it definitely re-energized mine. Sharing my journey with them gave me immense happiness and I can't wait to share my passion and inspire more future architects and planners! #architecture #planning #futurearchitects #inspiringyouth #industryinsight #education #creativity #imagination #designthinking #riscacommunitycomprehensiveschool #newport #students #yeardesigns #schoolredesign #architectsoftomorrow #funactivities #educationalvisits

Friday thanks to the University of Exeter and two of their superstar student's who've been working with us on internships this month. ⭐️Rhiannon Mangad, who's detailed research has helped to whip our Instagram content plan into shape (a very talented woman actively searching for her next role within the law – please DM her if you have an opportunity you can extend). ⭐️Lydia Scott, for an in-depth look at our TikTok performance and a solid strategy for building its performance further. These internships are fully funded and organised by #ExeterUni, and we are incredibly grateful for their support (Emily Hayter, Carly Ainsworth, Andrea Hodges). #UoEPathways #internship #employmentskills

This #SocialMobilityDay we ask you to volunteer with us to #ShareMoments throughout the year 👇
If I said all you needed to donate was 90 seconds of your time to possibly change the future for a young person ... you'd say yes, right? If I said you'd have to appear on TikTok, you'd probably be less keen. I get it. I do! At Working Options in Education we've had over 4,500,000 views of our TikTok videos so far this year. And we'd like to think that is having a positive impact on ensuring that all young people know their options so that they can find their career. By sharing your career journey, you have the power to inspire thousands of young people directly on the platform they choose to consume information. What we need are kind volunteers who are up for the challenge of sharing their story on camera. 📼 We provide a video guide to walk you through the steps. 🧑💻 We handle the editing, so you don’t have to be perfect on the first take. 💡 You choose the topic, as long as it offers insights into your career, industry, or the world of work. So, if you’ve read this far and are still interested, DM me (please). 90 seconds. That’s all.
